Don’t wait till the last minute. Start planning your options NOW.

✅ 3. Do Not Change Course / Provider Without Advice
If you are on a Bachelor’s or Master’s, continue with your current course & provider. Under the new rules from 2 Oct 2026, you may be restricted from changing providers until you complete 12 months of your principal course.

✅ 4. Comply With The Law
Laws have changed and we must comply. But we can adapt and explore lawful options.

🚨 IMPORTANT UPDATE FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS 🇦🇺

From 2 October 2026, the period before a student can change their education provider has changed from 6 months to 12 months of their principal course of study.

This means students may not be able to change their education provider until they have completed 12 months of their principal course, subject to the applicable rules and exemptions.

📌 If you are planning to change your course or education provider, make sure you understand the new requirements before taking any action.

🇦🇺 STUDENT VISA CHANGES – FROM 2 OCT 2026

Planning to extend your studies or include family in your Student Visa? New rules may affect you.

Q1. Need more time to finish your main course?
You can apply onshore ONLY IF:
✅ Same education provider
✅ Same or higher AQF level course
✅ Need max 12 months extra

If you changed provider = You must apply OFFSHORE.

Q2. Finished your course & want to study another?
You can apply onshore ONLY IF:
✅ You completed your main course (or same/higher level course)
✅ Your NEW course is at a HIGHER AQF level

Q3. Can I include my partner / children?
This is the biggest change.

❌ You generally CAN’T include family anymore
❌ You CAN’T add them later as subsequent entrants

✅ You CAN include family ONLY IF you are:
- PhD student
- DFAT / Defence sponsored
- Foreign govt scholarship holder
- From Pacific / ASEAN country (eligible)

If family is already on your current Student Visa, you may be able to include them in your next visa.

📌 All applicants must be in the same location at time of lodgement.

📢 IMPORTANT UPDATE – SKILLSELECT INVITATION ROUND

The SkillSelect invitation round that was expected to be conducted on 30 September 2026 has now been postponed to 31 October 2026.

This means you have one more month to review and work on your Expression of Interest (EOI).

✅ Check that all your personal details are correct
✅ Review your claimed points
✅ Update your employment history and qualifications if required
✅ Make sure your English and skills assessment information is accurate
✅ Check your partner and family information
✅ Most importantly, make sure every claim in your EOI is true, accurate and can be supported by evidence

Remember, receiving an invitation means you will need to provide evidence for the claims made in your EOI. The Department advises applicants to keep their EOI updated and accurate.

Use this additional time wisely. Do not wait until the last day to review your EOI.

📌 One more month. One more opportunity to get your EOI right.
