We've been up in Gimuy for the incredible Cairns Pride Festival and took the opportunity to catch up with our sibling CLCs Cairns Community Legal Centre Inc and North Queensland Women's Legal Service to talk about access to justice for LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy people in Far North Queensland.

Great turnout from the team (particularly heading into a long weekend), and we're looking forward to continuing these vital co-learning conversations.

We had a great time at Cairns Pride Festival Fair Day.

Great to connect with so many community members and community services, including Cairns Sexual Health Service Pflag+ Cairns and QC Gimuy - Cairns

So often we hear people stop and say "wow, we have our own legal service!"... "that is so great / so needed". Getting out on the road to our regional Pride events is not just a great deal of fun, it's a great way to help get the word out that we're here for all our community no matter where you live or what issues you're facing.

We're running a drop in legal advice session on Wednesday at the QC Gimuy office from 10am - 4pm. Pop in or give us a call on 3124 7160, or request legal help through our website form.

Finally, huge thanks and big gratitude to all of the volunteers who made the magic happen, and check out the other events on the Cairns Pride Festival page.

Another gorgeous Gimuy morning for the Pride Stride march along the Cairns Esplanade had some great chats whilst we meandered along and some heartening displays of allyship from passersby.

If you're in Cairns, head to the Tanks Arts Centre between 10am - 4pm for the Pride Fair Day, we'll have a stall and time for a chat.

We'll also be at the QC office in Parramatta Park on Wednesday for drop in advice sessions.

Jury's in on our Justice Beyond the Binary consultation and we're super chuffed with the feedback!

We loved organising this consultation and look forward to connecting more with the many parts of our diverse community.

We're also looking forward to sharing the Justice Beyond the Binary resource in the near future; our workshop participants were incredibly generous with their feedback and have given us lots to work with.

Stay tuned for more opportunities to get involved and have your say!

Today we celebrate the LGBTI Legal Service's 15th birthday!

On 31 July 2009, the LGBTI Legal Service was legally incorporated under the Queensland Associations Incorporation Act, making today our 15th year as Queensland's first, and Australia's only, dedicated community legal centre by and for LGBTIQ+ people.

A lot has changed during the last 15 years, including improvements in inclusive language. Back in 2009, "LGBTI" was best practice terminology to reflect our diverse communities.

Times change are we are changing with it; watch this space for further announcements about how you can be involved in shaping the future of the service.
