Meet the Team | Jon Wiedman

Jon’s connection with Hede Byrne & Hall goes back more than 30 years. He joined the firm as an article clerk in 1992, was admitted as a solicitor in 1997 and became a Director in 2000.

Today, Jon practises almost exclusively in succession and estate matters, helping clients with everything from Wills and Enduring Powers of Attorney through to deceased estates, trusts and estate litigation.

Jon is also closely involved in the legal profession. He is a Councillor on the Queensland Law Society Council, is Deputy Chair of its Succession Law Committee and is Secretary of the Downs and South West Law Association.

Outside the office, Jon has another long-standing commitment. He is a former President, and continues to be an active trainer, with Coolaroo Australian Football Club in Toowoomba and holds qualifications in sports medicine and sports massage.

More than three decades at HBH, and a strong connection to the profession and the community he works in. It’s great to introduce you to Jon.

Meet the Team | Vince Hede

Vince Hede leads Hede Byrne & Hall's Family Law team and has dedicated his career to helping people navigate some of life's most challenging moments.

As a Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialist in Family Law and a lawyer recognised in the Doyle's Guide as a Leading Family & Divorce Lawyer for Toowoomba, Darling Downs & Western Queensland. Vince is known for providing practical, experienced advice tailored to each client's circumstances.

One of Vince's guiding principles is that going to court should be the exception, not the rule. Wherever possible, he works with clients to resolve matters efficiently, helping minimise the financial, emotional and personal costs that often come with lengthy disputes.

A Toowoomba local, Vince is also passionate about giving back to the community through a range of local organisations and sporting clubs.

Jennifer’s connection to the Darling Downs began long before her own childhood.

Her family history in the region dates back to 1866, when her ancestors, Johann Friedrich and Henrietta Sophia Kratzmann, arrived in Queensland from Prussia and settled on a small farming property in Toowoomba near what is now the Middle Ridge Golf Course.

The family’s ties to Toowoomba continued through the generations. Jennifer’s great-grandfather worked as a stable hand and drove Mrs Taylor around town in her horse and buggy from the Taylor family home – now known as Gip’s Restaurant, just down the road from our own Toowoomba office.

More than 150 years later, Jennifer remains proud of her family’s enduring connection to the region, its communities and the values that have been passed down through generations.

Jennifer’s appreciation for regional Queensland was further shaped when her family moved to a cattle and cropping property at Felton East when she was a child. Her father, an architect by profession, had always dreamed of becoming a farmer and the family spent more than a decade on the property before relocating to Toowoomba.

After completing her schooling in regional Queensland, Jennifer moved to Brisbane to study law and commence her legal career. However, when it came time to raise a family, she and her husband made the deliberate decision to return to Toowoomba, recognising the many benefits that regional Queensland offers for family life and community connection.

Today, Jennifer enjoys working with employers across regional Queensland. Having grown up in a farming community, she understands the realities faced by regional businesses, primary producers and employers and values the opportunity to assist clients who contribute so much to the communities in which they live and work. Whether navigating seasonal pressures, workforce challenges or the demands of running a business in a close-knit community, Jennifer appreciates the practical considerations her clients face and enjoys helping them achieve positive outcomes.

We recently welcomed members of the Downs and South Western Queensland Law Association - Dswqla to Hede Byrne & Hall for a Continuing Professional Development event.

The day brought together practitioners from across the region to discuss topics including ethics, lawyer wellbeing, psychosocial risk management and developments in succession law.

Jon Wiedman presented a session on succession law updates, sharing his knowledge and contributing to some thoughtful discussions with fellow regional practitioners.

Professional development is an important part of legal practice, particularly in regional Queensland where opportunities to connect and learn from one another can be less frequent.

Thank you to the DSWQLA and everyone who attended for a valuable and engaging day.
