We are incredibly proud of Leesa and her cousin Kylie, who are once again lacing up their walking shoes for Coastrek, Australia's iconic hiking challenge, proudly supporting Beyond Blue.

They have been training for months for this epic coastal trek while raising funds for a cause that is close to the hearts of many Australians. They are well prepared for soft sand, probably a blister or two, lots of laughs, meaningful conversations and the incredible feeling of crossing the finish line.

In Australia, around 5 million people are living with anxiety and depression, and nearly half of us will experience a mental health condition during our lifetime. More than 750 people reach out to the Beyond Blue 24/7 Support Service every day, resulting in over 275,000 life-changing conversations each year.

On average, $66 helps start a vital conversation with a trained professional. Funds raised through Coastrek help ensure Beyond Blue can continue supporting people when they feel overwhelmed, alone or unsure where to turn next.

If you'd like to support their fundraising efforts, every donation makes a difference.
Thank you.

'I've found a better location for my business, but I still have 18 months left on my lease.'

It's a situation many business owners can relate to. After settling into a location and getting to know their customers, a new opportunity appears. A larger premises becomes available, foot traffic is stronger, or the location feels like a better fit for the future of the business.

While the opportunity may feel exciting, it's important to understand what your existing commercial lease says before making any decisions.

Commercial leases can include important terms relating to ending a lease early. What seems like a straightforward business decision can sometimes involve additional costs, conditions or negotiations.

Understanding the terms of a lease before signing is important, but it's equally important to seek advice when circumstances change and new opportunities arise.

At Finch Legal, we help clients review commercial leases in plain English so they can make informed decisions with confidence.

'A sewer line runs through the property.' For many buyers, seeing something like this in a contract or disclosure statement can raise more questions than answers.

Will it affect future renovations?
Can you build over it?
Could it impact your plans for the property?

While every property and situation is different, it's important to understand what these types of disclosures mean before you commit to a purchase.

Whether it's sewer infrastructure, easements, property restrictions, or other matters affecting a property, asking questions early can help you make informed decisions and avoid surprises later.

At Finch Legal, we help clients understand the information in front of them in plain English so that they can move forward with confidence throughout the conveyancing process.

Important changes are coming to the conveyancing industry from 1 July 2026, with new Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) requirements affecting property transactions across Australia.

If you're buying, selling or investing in property, this may mean additional identity verification, source of funds checks and compliance steps throughout the conveyancing process.

While these changes may add a few extra steps, they are designed to strengthen protections against fraud and financial crime within the property industry.

As the industry adapts to these new legal obligations, our team will continue guiding clients through the process in plain English and working to keep transactions as smooth and stress free as possible.

This week, the Finch Legal team had the opportunity to spend some time with Robbie Irving, who guided us through a lunchtime breathwork and meditation session.

Working in the legal industry often requires a high level of focus, energy and care for others, so creating space to reset and recharge is something our team genuinely values.

A big thank you to Robbie for sharing his time, knowledge and calm approach with our team. We really appreciated the experience and the opportunity to try something different together.

Settlement day is exciting, but before the keys change hands, there is one very important step still to complete: the pre-settlement inspection.

This final inspection allows buyers to check that the property is in substantially the same condition as when the contract was signed, including any agreed inclusions or repairs.

A few things buyers often check during a pre-settlement inspection include:
✔ Agreed repairs have been completed
✔ Appliances, lights and air conditioning are working
✔ Fixtures and fittings included in the contract remain at the property
✔ No unexpected damage has occurred before settlement

If something does not seem right, it is important to raise it promptly with your conveyancer and real estate agent before settlement.

While many professionals are involved in a property transaction, understanding your contract and knowing what to look for during the final inspection can help avoid unnecessary stress or surprises later.

At Finch Legal, we guide clients through the conveyancing process in plain English so they feel informed, supported and prepared for settlement day.

Kind words like this mean so much to our team, especially when clients are navigating what can often feel like a stressful time.

'It has been a pleasure to work with Finch Legal. Your service has been exceptional. I was particularly impressed with the team's efficiency and communication, which mitigated much of the stress associated with the sale of a home.' Belinda

Signing a commercial lease is about far more than agreeing on rent.
Many business owners are surprised to learn that commercial lease agreements can also include important terms around maintenance, repairs, outgoings and responsibilities for the premises.

When issues arise with a commercial property, understanding what the lease says and who is responsible can become incredibly important.

Commercial leases can be highly detailed, and responsibilities for repairs, maintenance or damage are not always as straightforward as people expect.

It’s one of the reasons having a lease reviewed before signing, or seeking advice when problems arise, can help avoid confusion, unexpected costs and difficult conversations later on.

At Finch Legal, we help clients review commercial leases in plain English so they understand their obligations, risks and responsibilities before committing.
