Today the UK adopted No-Fault divorce Laws.

It is sometimes difficult to comprehend how progressive Australian family law is compared with some many other countries. Just today England and Wales adopted ‘No-Fault’ divorce laws meaning that separating couples can end their marriage without having to provide justification for doing so. Whilst this has been touted as the ‘biggest reform of divorce law for half a century’ in the UK, No Fault divorce has existed in Australia since 1975. Under Australian law you are not required to prove fault in order to successfully apply for a divorce, the Court simply requires that you be separated for 12 months and that there is no prospect for reconciliation. If you are separated and would like an initial consultation to speak to one of our family lawyers about the divorce process in Australia you can call our office on (08) 8451 9040.
