It encompasses the MIA - yes - large agriculture. How the electorate voted for Hanson's representative, PRESUMABLY knowing that One Nation's policies would decimate Agriculture (for a number of reasons), I don't know.

Do I see hordes of Jewish/Zionists protesting against the barbarity of a nation MOST of them support? "London: Britain will develop new defence systems with Ukraine by gaining access to battlefield data that can help train artificial intelligence programs that support future weapons, despite warnings from Russia against the deepening cooperation.

The pact will also see Britain share confidential missile designs so that Ukrainian companies can make the weapons inside their country in the hope of countering Russian airstrikes, amid new warnings about a shortage of air defence systems.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the country faced a “funding gap” of €27 billion ($44 billion) and needed help such as bringing forward European Union loans, as he marked the nation’s independence day on Monday.

Zelensky welcomed leaders including British Prime Minister Andy Burnham to ceremonies in Kyiv at a time of mounting risks for Ukrainian civilians, as the country confronts a shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles to counter Russian attacks.

Burnham promised help on this front by agreeing to give Ukraine the designs for the Storm Shadow missile, a weapon that is launched from a jet fighter to reach a target as much as 250km away.

The move is a significant show of support for Ukraine at a time when Zelensky is seeking help from US President Donald Trump to share the design of the Patriot systems in the hope they can be manufactured in Ukraine, alleviating the missile shortage.

The missile plans dominated media coverage of Burnham’s visit to Kyiv – his first as prime minister – to join other western leaders at the ceremonies, while a Kremlin spokesman declared that Britain was adding “fuel to the fire” in conflict.

When reporters asked Burnham about the Kremlin’s comment, he responded: “Who started the fire? That’s the question, isn’t it?”
Only after the headlines about the missile deal, however, did the news emerge that Britain would receive battlefield data from a Ukrainian tech centre, known as the Avengers Labs, to develop AI systems that can power drones and autonomous weapons.

“The platform provides real-world data and insights to train AI models, collected by thousands of daylight cameras and infrared sensors across the battlefield in Ukraine,” the UK government said.
“Those sensors and cameras capture millions of objects, such as tanks, artillery, air defence systems, infantry, and aerial targets, including Shahed drones and reconnaissance UAVs, feeding back data to the Avengers Lab to train new AI models.”

One project will explore the development of low-power AI chips designed to power future drones, robotics and autonomous systems.

“If successful, the technology could underpin a new generation of intelligent machines capable of operating for longer, responding faster and functioning in environments where conventional systems struggle,” the UK said.

Developers in Ukraine have been working on AI software to create autonomous drones for some time, telling this masthead about their plans in Lviv last year.

Russian developers are keeping up in the drone arms race, however, and have deployed autonomous drones at targets in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia, according to The New York Times, which reported this week on Russian drones fitted with AI chips and computer systems from US tech giant Nvidia.

In an attack on July 6, the newspaper reported, three Ukrainians were killed by a Russian drone that was “self-targeting” and using AI components, in what would be the first documented case of this technology being used against civilians in the war.

On Monday, Burnham visited a Kyiv shopping centre hit by a Russian strike in May, before being given a guitar by a Ukrainian soldier. The prime minister played the guitar briefly before hearing Ukrainian troops sing an Oasis song.

While Britain is sharing valuable missile designs, the move is not expected to bolster Ukrainian defences in the near-term because of the challenge of manufacturing the weapons.

Zelensky is urgently seeking help from Trump to ensure Ukraine can make its own versions of the Patriot interceptors, which are now in short supply after being heavily used to counter Iranian missile and drone attacks in the Middle East.

Arun Dawson, a researcher at the Freeman Air and Space Institute at King’s College London, told the Associated Press that the UK plan would not help Ukraine through the coming northern winter and would probably not have an effect until next year, at the earliest.

“What Ukraine needs is protection from Russian ballistic missile attacks,” he said.

The Storm Shadow is known as the SCALP when made and deployed in France. The missile design is used by the British, French and Italian air forces.

The missile would give Ukraine a deeper offensive capability, Dawson told the Associated Press.

“You can use it to take out the Russian sites from which they are launching these ballistic missiles,” he said.

"The Coalition’s push to extend the antisemitism royal commission has failed to attract the support of key Jewish community leaders, as a Greens senator rejects calls to apologise for claiming Labor and the Coalition have been “captured by Zionist interests”.

An online petition echoing Liberal MP Julian Leeser’s call for the royal commission to be extended had attracted over 800 signatures within hours of being launched on Sunday, but the nation’s peak Jewish bodies have notably declined to endorse the push.
Senior sources in the Jewish community, speaking to this masthead on condition of anonymity, said there was “absolutely not” overwhelming support for pushing the royal commission’s reporting date beyond December 14, the anniversary of the Bondi Beach massacre.

“None of the mainstream Jewish community organisations participating in the royal commission have come out and supported these calls,” one senior figure said.

Neither the Executive Council of Australian Jewry nor the Zionist Federation of Australia have called for the royal commission to be extended.

Another senior Jewish community figure said they feared pushing back the deadline would lead the royal commission to lose momentum and public support.

The change.org petition launched by Marnie Perlstein, a Jewish community advocate in Sydney, argues that “there has been an alarming lack of accountability from political figures” in the royal commission.

“Those who have failed in their leadership roles, individuals who theoretically should have played pivotal roles in preventing the spread of hate, have not been summoned to give evidence,” the petition says.

“There has also been a reluctance to explore ‘radical Islam’ we have not heard from the ‘hate preachers’ who took to the streets after October 7, for example.”

In a speech to the Senate later in the week, Greens Senator Nick McKim accused the government of being “captured by Zionist interests”, as well as the fossil fuel lobby and the Five Eyes intelligence sharing network.

When Liberal Senator James Paterson objected to these remarks, McKim replied that he had also been captured by Zionist interests.
Zionist Federation of Australia President Jeremy Leibler declared, in a letter to McKim released on Sunday, that it was “reckless and dangerous” for the senator to use such language while the royal commission probes the root causes of antisemitism, following the killing of 15 people at a Hanukkah festival at Bondi.

He accused McKim of dressing up an “ancient antisemitic trope in contemporary language” by suggesting Jews who support Israel’s existence wield a sinister form of covert influence over Australian politics.

“Political leaders cannot absolve themselves of responsibility for dangerous rhetoric simply by substituting the word ‘Zionist’ for ‘Jew’,” Leibler said in the letter.

“Having reflected, you should withdraw your remarks and apologise unreservedly to the Australian Jewish community.”
Paterson has called for McKim to apologise, accusing him of promoting conspiracy theories that encourage antisemitism.
McKim brushed off calls for an apology, telling this masthead: “Conflating ‘Zionist’ with ‘Jew’, as the Zionist Federation does, is fundamentally dishonest.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong last week called in the Israeli ambassador to express the government’s outrage over the decision not to pursue criminal charges against the soldiers responsible for the drone strike that killed Australian aid worker Zomi Frankcom in 2024.

Wong told reporters it was “a difficult time in the relationship” in the relationship between Australia and Israel.
The government has regularly voted against Israel at the United Nations in recent years, as well as imposing sanctions on senior Israeli cabinet ministers and angering the Netanyahu government by recognising Palestinian statehood.

As Nick Bryant said, the US voter was sick of the Clintons, and in 2016 went for the Government untried Trump. "Socialists will destroy the economy". That usual MAGA nonsense is wearing thin - Trump's doing a great job at that. Bernie Sanders well into his years, has to fight to make the Democrat Party viable. He's such a radical - believes in free medicine (and Texas has a measles outbreak) and free education (the more educated people are, the less they vote MAGA - a good thing). "Washington: Democrats in the midwestern state of Michigan have chosen Abdul El-Sayed, a left-wing Muslim health administrator, to be their candidate for the US Senate in a result with seismic consequences for the midterm elections and US politics.

They rejected Haley Stevens, a four-term Democratic congresswoman heavily backed by the party establishment, despite outside groups spending more than $US60 million ($84.5 million) for her in the most expensive Democratic Senate primary ever.

His victory comes at a time when Republicans, led by US President Donald Trump, are painting Democrats nationwide as being overtaken by communists who want to destroy America, end capitalism and adopt a range of policies that sit outside the mainstream.

El-Sayed, who was backed by progressive hero Bernie Sanders and democratic socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, will be the Democratic candidate for a seat which the party must hold if it is to win control of the Senate in November.

The 41-year-old campaigned on a platform of taking private finance out of politics, putting money in the pockets of regular Michiganders, and universal healthcare. He promised higher taxes on the wealthy and ending US military aid and arms sales to Israel.
The contest was tighter than many recent polls predicted, with El-Sayed winning 48.5 per cent to 47.5, or about 15,000 votes. CNN and the Associated Press called the race for him just before 10am on Wednesday (midnight AEST), when 99 per cent of the counting had been completed.

Both candidates called for unity. Stevens congratulated her opponent on winning a “thorough and rigorous campaign”, and pledged her support in the battle to come.

Speaking in Detroit, El-Sayed said his campaign “took on a machine” and won. “What we showed is that the power of our many is greater than the power of their money,” he said. “My hope is that our democracy will never be the same.”
Michigan, a swing state that voted for Trump in 2016 and 2024, last sent a Republican to the US Senate in the 1990s. But Republican candidate Mike Rogers, a former congressman, has brand recognition and only lost narrowly last time.

Most experts say El-Sayed’s win makes it harder for Democrats to hold the seat, while strategists were soul-searching about the party’s direction and whether it was moving too far to the left.

Adrian Hemond, chief executive of Grassroots Midwest, a bipartisan Michigan-based public affairs group, told this masthead last week: “If he wins the primary and then loses the general election in the fall, it’s disastrous for national progressives.”

El-Sayed is the first Muslim to win the Democratic nomination for the US Senate (though not the first Republican), and would be the first Muslim to enter the US Senate if he wins in November.
Unlike Ocasio-Cortez or Zohran Mamdani in New York, he is not a member of the Democratic Socialists of America. But he has attended their events in the past, and the DSA supported his campaign. “His policy platform is socialist,” Hemond said.
El Sayed’s victory represents a heavy defeat for the Democratic elite. Stevens had endorsements from Michigan’s Democratic governor Gretchen Whitmer, multiple senators and representatives, mayors and former officeholders.

There were no results on Tuesday night with the race closer than most polls predicted.Bloomberg Sanders, appearing on CNN as the votes were still counted, said he couldn’t recall anything like it.

“Abdul El-Sayed is taking on the entire Michigan Democratic establishment,” Sanders said. “He’s taking on the entire national Democratic establishment. He has been outspent 10 to one.”
The $US60 million in outside funding supporting Stevens’ campaign included more than $US30 million from pro-Israel lobby groups, which became an important focus of the campaign.

Polls show the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which funds pro-Israel candidates via super PACs, is a toxic entity among Democrats, especially younger ones - as is support for Israel more broadly.

Stevens remained a staunch supporter of the Jewish state and once told a Hanukkah event: “Israel comes to me in my dreams.”
El-Sayed ended up comfortably winning Kent County, which takes in the city of Grand Rapids. He also easily won the state capital, Lansing, and Ann Arbor, home to the University of Michigan.

Stevens won Detroit, largely thanks to its majority population of African Americans, who are less likely to support left-wing candidates than white Democrats.

Trump weighed in Wednesday morning claiming, without evidence, that Wayne Country - which takes in Detroit - was one of the most corrupt voting areas in the US.

“Great news for the Republican Party,” he said. “El-Sayed, a communist loser who hates Jews and Israel, is the projected winner … Now, the Dumocrats crazy policies will only get worse!”"
