Stephen Scarlett will be accepting briefs to appear in the Federal Circuit Court from 29 July 2021.

This will mark the 5th anniversary of his retirement as a Judge of the Federal Circuit Court and his eligibility to appear as counsel in his former Court.

Since commencing practice at the NSW Bar in 2017, Stephen is asked on a daily basis whether he can appear in the Federal Circuit Court. That day is now less than 300 days away!

Stephen already appears in both State and Federal Courts including NSW Local Court and Family Court of Australia.

Welcome to my page. I am a Barrister & nationally accredited Mediator based in Edmund Barton Chambers in Sydney having retired as a Judge of the Federal Circuit Court of Australia on 28 July 2016.

I served in that Court and its predecessor, the Federal Magistrates Court, from 19 June 2000.

Previously, I was a Magistrate of the Local Court of New South Wales from 7 November 1988 and the Senior Children’s Magistrate of the Children’s Court of NSW from 1995 until June 2000.

I was a solicitor in Parkes NSW from 1971 until my appointment to the Local Court in 1988.

In 2015 I was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for service to the Judiciary, to the law and to professional organisations.

I was accredited as a Mediator under the NMAS on 2 December 2016 and am available for mediations in:

* Family Law
* Family Provisions matters
* Court ordered mediations
* Commercial and private mediations

I commenced practice as a barrister on 1 July 2017 and accept briefs in:
* Local Court matters
* District Court matters
* Children's Court matters
* Family Court matters
