Scammers are getting more convincing every day, relying on panic and polish to trick you. Remember these five things your bank will never ask you to do to keep yourself scam safe.

πŸ›‘οΈ Your bank will never:
1️⃣ Call and ask people to transfer funds to another account over the phone.
2️⃣ Contact you to ask for any account or personal details in an unsolicited text or email.
3️⃣ Ask for online banking passcodes or passwords over email, text or phone.
4️⃣ Ask for remote access to your devices.
5️⃣ Threaten you to take immediate action on an issue.

If you're pressured to move fast, stop. Hang up and contact your bank directly through their official channels.

Your banking app can do a lot more than check your balance.

These four are worth knowing about:

πŸ”’ Lock your card. Misplaced it rather than lost it? Freeze it in the app, then unlock it when it turns up in the car.
⬇️ Set your own limits. You can lower your daily transfer limit and your tap and go limit.
🚫 Switch off gambling payments. Many banks let you block gambling transactions on your card, and most add a waiting period before you can switch it back on.
βœ… Confirmation of Payee. When you pay someone new using a BSB and account number, your bank checks whether the account name matches who you think you are paying.

Every bank does this a bit differently, so go and check out the settings in your banking app.

Key tips for staying Census safe:
🚫 Never click a link in a text or email claiming to be from the ABS.
βœ… Double check you are on the official Census website before proceeding.
πŸ”’ Remember, the ABS will never ask for banking details such as login details or any kind of payment.
🌐 If you're unsure about any Census communications, visit the official ABS website to contact them directly.
