The long awaited changes to both the Subclass 482 and 186 visas were released late Friday 6 December 2024. These changes are generally quite positive and see a return to many of the legislative settings in place prior to the major 2017 overhaul. These changes will provide greater access for younger professionals and direct paths to permanent residence for all eligible employees.

These changes are effective immediately, but applications that were already lodged, but not yet decided as at 7 December 2024 will continue to be assessed against the pre-7 December requirements under transitional arrangements. Check out our newsletter for more information!

At the Federal Government’s request, a Joint Standing Committee on Migration was formed last year to investigate and report on Australia's Skilled Migration Program. A key focus of the Committee was on Visa Subclasses 482 Temporary Skill Shortage and 186 Employer Nomination Scheme. We are pleased to report that the Committee has released its final report and made a number of recommends that would benefit both employers and their sponsored employees, should they be accepted by the Government.
