When something goes wrong, the first question will be: Who was responsible? 🦉
- Who checked the load?
- Who approved the schedule?
- Who signed off on the plan?
- Who had the power to prevent the risk?

Under the Chain of Responsibility, the answer may involve more than one person. Make sure responsibilities are clear before the wheels start turning. 🚛

Fatigued drivers are profitable.

The latest numbers from the NHVR show 1 in every 10 drivers breached a fatigue law and in the latest sting the NHVR stopped over 6100 vehicles.

The headlines look good, nearly 150 drivers with fatigue related offences.

But a fatigue related offence does not mean the driver is about to fall asleep.

It is just the way the HVNL sets a standard after a certain amount of time you are tired even though they have never driven a truck, and the people that have their paperwork right might actually be the tired ones.

I agree there has to be a standard because with no brakes on fatigue laws some drivers will just drive forever.

But the law has big holes in it.

Fining a driver because he could not find a rest stop or maybe a simple mistake, the line drawn a bit too far or the km put wrong could be human error.

Some entries were false and misleading or maybe it was their way of trying to save themselves. Accidentally passing a rest stop and the next one not in sight for 45 minutes happens.

There has to be a better way but a better way does not make money.

Putting a merit system in place that only fines drivers that go over x amount of minutes for x amount of offences is not good for their pockets.

Fatigue cannot be measured, it can only be controlled by setting a limited amount of time to drive, but people make mistakes.

Drivers might be tired and have the correct paperwork and are free to go.

At the end of the day instead of fining people remember we cannot always find a rest stop.

The law says the driver has to make himself familiar with the rest stops but the law written in an office often does not work in practice.
