🎓 Student visa rules changed on 2 October 2026. Know them before you act.
If you’re in Australia and planning to apply for a Student visa, here’s what’s different:
❌ Most temporary visa holders can no longer apply for a Student visa from inside Australia
❌ Many current students can’t apply for a new Student visa onshore, unless an exemption applies
❌ Family members generally can’t be included in your application, and they can’t be added after your visa is granted
✈️ If you have to apply from offshore, you must be outside Australia when you lodge AND when your visa is granted
Some exemptions are available, including for PhD students, school students, eligible course progression, and some sponsored and scholarship students.
⚠️ The order matters. When you enrol, leave Australia, lodge your application and include your family can be hard to undo.
