This year, LAWASIA proudly celebrates its 60th Anniversary, marking six decades of bringing together lawyers, judges, bar associations and legal professionals from across the region.

From its beginnings in 1966 to today, LAWASIA has continued to foster connection, collaboration and the exchange of legal knowledge, building a strong and diverse legal community across the Asia-Pacific.

As we celebrate this incredible milestone, we look back with pride on our history and look forward to the opportunities ahead.

🌍🌊 On World Environment Day & World Ocean Day 2026, LAWASIA reaffirms its commitment to environmental rule of law and meaningful climate and ocean action.

The landmark 2025 International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion made clear that climate action is not merely a policy choice—it is a legal obligation.
LAWASIA calls on governments across Asia and the Pacific to honour their commitments, strengthen environmental protections, and ensure that the rule of law guides the response to the climate and biodiversity crises.

📣 LAWASIA and the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, jointly issue this statement in strong support of the United Nations General Assembly resolution introduced by Vanuatu and a cross-regional group of States, that has endorsed the landmark Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on the obligations of States in respect of climate change, delivered on 23 July 2025.
