Congratulations to Chloe Walker, who graduated from the University of the Sunshine Coast yesterday with a combined degree, Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Journalism. Chloe has been employed at Griffiths Lawyers since February 2018 and continues to be a valued member of our team. Chloe’s mum, Anne (pictured here) is also a Griffiths Lawyers team member, as Legal Secretary to Ian Griffiths. We are all so proud of you, Chloe!

Last night, Brian Carson (Lawyer) attended a Family Law Practitioners’ Association (FLPA) event where Kara Best (Director of Best Wilson Buckley Family Law and Parenting Co-ordinator), Hayley Cunningham (Director of Family Law Group Solicitors and Parenting Co-ordinator) and Shanna Quinn (Barrister, Mediator, Forensic Social Scientist and Parenting Co-ordinator) presented:

1. Tips to draft better parenting orders to avoid disputes in the future;
2. When things go wrong – tips to give enforcement and contravention applications the best chance of success;
3. The new alternative – parenting coordination – what it is and ways that it can help in high conflict matters.

In the south-east Queensland lockdown area, but "only essential workers" may attend the office.

This means:

⚖️ A client may leave home to acquire essential legal services (paragraph 6(a))

⚖️ Employees of a law firm may leave home to carry out or conduct the essential business, activity or undertaking, where the work, business activity or undertaking to be performed is of a nature that cannot reasonably be performed from the person’s principal place of residence (paragraph 6(f))

⚖️ However, an essential business, activity or undertaking in the lockdown area may only operate with essential workers or volunteers present, with physical distancing and face mask requirements observed (paragraph 35)

⚖️ An essential worker or volunteer refers to someone who performs work or volunteering that is urgently required for safety reasons, for emergency repairs, or that is necessary to maintain essential services and supplies to the community, or to a part of the community, including but not limited to, a nurse, doctor, cook, teacher, healthcare provider, shelf packer, plumber or electrician.
