In 2024-25, 48.3% of psychological injury claims in Queensland’s WorkCover scheme were rejected. For physical injuries, it was 4.5%.

And 97.3% of those psychological rejections relied on the same thing: the “reasonable management action” exclusion.

The State Government’s independent review of the scheme is looking at exactly this. Submissions closed on 31 May, and the report is expected in the second half of 2026. Our latest article breaks down what’s being reviewed, the numbers behind it, and what it could mean for workers and employers.

Should an injury to the mind at work be tested the same way as an injury to the body? Tell us what you think 👇

Queensland is reviewing its workers' compensation scheme, with psychological injury claims at the centre. What's on the table, what's excluded and what's next.

“The customer is always right” doesn’t always hold up.

Customer abuse is now a workplace safety hazard.

The SDA’s 2025 survey of 2,592 retail workers found:

😠 88% had been verbally abused by a customer in the past year
⚠️ 25% had experienced physical violence, roughly double 2023
🔁 59% said the same customer had been abusive more than once

Since 1 April 2023, Queensland businesses have had to manage customer aggression as a psychosocial hazard. Refusing service is a recognised safety control.

💬 Have you witnessed customer abuse?

Customer aggression is a recognised workplace safety hazard in Queensland. What the rules expect when a customer turns aggressive, and what retail staff can do.

You probably have insurance you never signed up for, and you have been paying for it 💡

Most super funds add life cover and total and permanent disability cover automatically once you are 25 or over. You do not have to have asked for it, and the premiums come out of your balance either way. Two super accounts can mean two policies.

It takes about five minutes to check. Log in to your fund, read the insurance section of your annual statement, or ring and ask what cover you hold and under which definition. That last part matters more than people expect.

Zip merging looks like queue-jumping, but it isn't.

It means using every lane right up to the point of narrowing, then alternating one car at a time, and traffic engineers say it actually keeps traffic moving faster than everyone merging early. Most Queensland drivers still merge early anyway.

Merge accidents are notoriously messy for figuring out who's at fault, and that's half the reason zip merging causes so many arguments.

Do you zip merge, or does it drive you mad when someone does it to you?

You always indicate left to leave a roundabout, whichever way you went in.

That one causes more arguments than any other rule on the list, and it is only one of five here that licensed drivers of thirty years get wrong. Every one checked against Transport and Main Roads.

Which one did you have wrong? No judgement, we had to look two of them up.

That's a wrap on the Corey Parker 9s Country Series 🏉

Two days of country footy in Gatton, and this purple crew brought the energy from the first whistle to the final team photo.

We're proud to have backed a weekend built on community, with juniors getting their moment and an All Abilities division that stole plenty of hearts.

Thanks to the whole CP9s team for having us, and to every family who made the trip.

When someone is seriously injured, everyone asks how they are going. Almost nobody asks how the person beside the bed is going.

This is the practical side of the first month. Write things down. Keep every receipt. Ask for things in writing. And week three is usually harder than week one, which is normal rather than a sign you are doing it badly.

Share it with someone who is in the middle of it.
