On the 27th of March, Medson Legal had the pleasure of attending the Svenson Barristers CPD Day held at the RACV Club in Melbourne. The event brought together leading practitioners for a day of insightful discussion, professional development, and collaboration within the legal community.

We are proud to share that our Principal, Kristine Medson, was invited to speak at the event. Kris delivered a thoughtful and engaging presentation, contributing her expertise and perspective to the program. Her participation reflects Medson Legal's ongoing commitment to staying at the forefront of legal practice and actively engaging in opportunities that support learning and excellence within the profession.

We thank Svenson Barristers for hosting such a well-organised and valuable event and look forward to continuing to engage with colleagues across the industry.

Meet Nadine

Admitted to practice in 2020, Nadine began her legal career as a Law Clerk in 2018, building strong foundations in a range of practice areas. She worked in busy Melbourne general practices before making the decision in early 2023 to focus exclusively on family law. Nadine joined Medson Legal in early 2024 and has since become a valued member of our growing team.

Nadine practises primarily in family law, assisting clients across a broad range of matters including parenting arrangements, property settlements and complex financial issues. She understands that parenting disputes can be particularly sensitive and emotionally challenging, and she approaches each matter with care, empathy and a genuine commitment to achieving outcomes that prioritise the best interests of children.

With extensive experience in commercial litigation and property law, Nadine brings a strategic and detail-focused approach to her work. Her broader legal background enhances her ability to provide clear, concise and accurate advice, particularly in matters involving complex asset structures or financial considerations.

In addition to family law, Nadine also assists clients in the areas of Wills, Estates and Estate Litigation, offering practical and considered guidance during what can often be difficult times.

Nadine is known for her empathetic understanding, professionalism and ability to support clients with both compassion and clarity. We are delighted to have her as part of the Medson Legal team.

As families settle back into the school routine, it’s common for parenting matters to come into sharper focus.

The start of a new school year often highlights important practical questions — school drop-offs and pick-ups, holiday time, extracurricular activities, communication, and ensuring children have stability across both households. When arrangements are unclear or inconsistent, it can create unnecessary stress for both parents and, most importantly, for children.

Parenting agreements that are structured, child-focused and practical can make all the difference. Clear expectations help children feel secure, supported, and able to focus on what matters most — learning, friendships, and simply being kids.

Here at Medson Legal, we work with families to create thoughtful, workable parenting arrangements that prioritise stability, cooperation and the best interests of every child.

If you need guidance as the school year begins, we’re here to help.

The importance of compassion in Family Law.

Family law is different from other areas of practice. It involves people navigating significant transitions and making decisions that impact their relationships, children, and financial stability.

In these moments, compassion is not just helpful - it is essential.

Compassion means recognising the human context behind each matter and supporting clients through uncertainty with dignity and respect. It allows for clearer communication, reduces unnecessary conflict, and encourages outcomes that prioritise long-term wellbeing, particularly for children.

Here at Medson Legal, we understand that family law is personal. We approach each matter with both legal expertise and empathy, understanding that every client’s story is unique. When clients feel heard and supported, they are better equipped to make informed decisions about their future. The law provides structure, but compassion ensures that the process honours the lived experience of the people at its centre.

What happens if you die without a Will in Victoria?

Many people assume their estate will naturally be passed on in a way that aligns with their personal wishes. In reality, without a valid Will, the law determines how assets are distributed, and those outcomes may not always reflect family dynamics or intentions.

For example, a partner may receive the entire estate, or it may be divided between a partner and children, including children from previous relationships. If there is no partner, the estate may pass to children alone, and if there are no children, it moves further through the family line — from parents and siblings to grandparents, aunts, uncles and finally cousins.

Only where there are no surviving relatives does the estate eventually pass to the government.

With no clear instructions comes delays, disputes and administrative complications. During a period of grief, this additional burden can be both emotionally and financially stressful.

Creating a Will allows you to:
• Decide exactly who benefits from your estate
• Protect partners, children, and blended families
• Minimise the risk of conflict or legal disputes
• Ensure your wishes are respected

At Medson Legal, we offer a Will-making process designed to be:
✔ Clear and easy to understand
✔ Efficient and timely
✔ Tailored to your personal situation

Planning ahead is one of the most thoughtful gifts you can give your family. If you’ve been putting off making a Will, now is the time to take the next step.

📩 Contact Medson Legal to begin the process.

As the 16 Days of Activism come to an end, it’s important to remember that every day should be a day of activism against gender-based violence because meaningful change requires consistency and collective effort.

The issues we highlight during the campaign continue long after it concludes, and so must our commitment to challenging harmful attitudes, supporting survivors, and promoting respect in all relationships.

Here at Medson Legal, we recognise that ongoing awareness and action are essential, and we remain dedicated to advocating for safety, equality, and justice every single day.

Day 13 of 16 Days of Activism.

Respect is believing victim survivors.

You can have an enormous impact on someone’s journey to safety.

If someone you know is experiencing violence, listen without judgement and believe what they tell you.

It’s important not to say things like “so why do you stay?” or “but what did you do?” as these questions place the blame on the person who’s experienced violence.

Instead, validate their experiences and let them know you’re there to support them.

You can give them the contact details of a specialist family violence support service. Safe Steps is Victoria’s 24/7 family violence phone line that can be reached on 1800 015 188. 1800 RESPECT is the national domestic, family and sexual violence phone line that can be reached on 1800 737 732.
Join the 16 Days of Activism and help build communities where women are safe and equal. It all starts with respect.

Day 10 of 16 Days of Activism

Learning how to become an active bystander is important because it empowers individuals to safely intervene when they witness disrespect, harassment, or violence.

When people understand practical ways to speak up, offer support, or challenge harmful attitudes, they help disrupt behaviours that contribute to gender-based violence.

Building these skills strengthens community responsibility and shows that everyone has a role in creating safer, more respectful environments.

If you or someone you know is experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, domestic, family or sexual violence, call 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732, text 0458 737 732, or visit www.1800respect.org.au for online chat and video call services.

Day 9 of 16 Days of Activism.

Men are starting to have the conversation about what they can do to end the national crisis of gender-based violence.

We need to make sure this conversation keeps going, by talking to our friends, recognising the warning signs of violence, challenging abusive behaviours, and listening to women and survivors of all genders without judgement or defensiveness.

Join the 16 Days of Activism and help build communities where women are safe and equal. It all starts with respect.
