On 6 June 1859, Queen Victoria signed the Letters Patent, authorising Queensland's separation, and confirming its status as an independent colony.
This day—6 June—is now known as Queensland Day
Queensland day is an opportunity to celebrate what’s great about being a Queenslander. A chance to celebrate the state’s heritage, culture, people, places and industry.
Queenslanders come from more than 220 different countries and territories, speak more than 180 languages at home, and identify with over 110 different faiths.
And with more than five million people calling Queensland home, we each have our own unique story to tell. You can share your stories and sentiments about Queensland online by using . Through sharing our stories, we are offered a lens into the lives of our wider Queensland community.
