Social media posts could seriously affect a compensation claim.

Courts and insurers now routinely review Facebook, Instagram and TikTok when assessing claims and there have been a number of recent cases where a single post (often something completely innocent) led to a reduction in the compensation payable.

Most people assume that a company’s policies and procedures are just internal documents.

Under Queensland law, however, those documents can potentially be used against the company.

If a company has written procedures for safety, training or operations and an accident happens because those procedures weren't followed, those same documents become evidence of what should have happened.

Any organisation that puts its standards in writing is effectively setting the bar that it'll be held to.

How liability gets established isn't always obvious. If you'd like to understand how Queensland law works in this area, our team can help.

Calling a no win no fee lawyer is not as stressful as you might think. And it’s normally free.

When you call, all that happens is that you answer a few questions and we then give you honest advice about your rights and entitlements.

We then arrange a time to meet, whether that's at one of our Qld offices or by a video call if distance is an issue, to discuss things in more detail.

There is no pressure to proceed and if you decide not to go ahead, it doesn’t cost you anything.

So, you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain by reaching out to get a better understanding of your rights.

A few weeks back, our solicitors and leadership team headed to Brisbane for a strategy day focused on the future growth and direction of the firm.

It was a valuable opportunity to collaborate, plan ahead, and strengthen our vision.

Of course, it wouldn't be a successful day without a little fun added into the mix as well, with the team rounding out the day with some AFL action. 🏉

Most people who call a lawyer have never needed one before.

The process is unfamiliar, the timeline feels uncertain, and nobody tells you what's actually happening.

That's the part we take seriously. Chris didn't just get a result, he always knew where things stood.

If you'd like to understand your rights and what the process actually looks like, our first conversation is free.

Your dashcam might not be the protection you think it is.

Most people fit one, assuming it'll back them up. But the footage cuts both ways.

If you were at fault, the police have the power to seize it. Your insurer will request it, and if you delete the footage or destroy the camera before that happens, a court can draw an adverse inference, effectively assuming the footage proved what you were hiding.

There's also a timing problem most people don't know about: dashcams loop and overwrite automatically. If you need that footage preserved, you need to act fast.

Knowing what to do, and what not to do, in the hours after an accident matters more than most people realise.

If you have questions about how evidence works in Queensland, our team can help.

QLD is changing the rules for e-scooter and e-bike riders. 🚴

From the new laws: riders must be at least 16 years old with a valid driver's licence, speed limits drop to 10km/h in certain zones, and police can conduct random breath testing.

If you ride one or were involved in an accident with one, these changes affect you.

Follow us for updates as the laws roll out, or reach out directly if you have questions.

If an insurer makes you a quick offer after an accident, you should immediately question why, as there is a specific rule in Queensland that applies in these situations.

It's called the "once and for all" principle. Once an offer for compensation has been accepted, that is it. You cannot go back later and ask for more money, even if your situation changes for the worse.

Early offers are usually made by insurers before your appropriate compensation can be properly assessed. Getting the right legal advice about any offers you receive can make a huge difference to the amount you receive.
