🤝 Reconciliation in the West 2026

WestSide Community Lawyers was proud to attend this year's Reconciliation in the West event, hosted by Anglicare SA, Taoundi Aboriginal College, Life Without Barriers and Uniting SA.

The event provided a valuable opportunity to connect with community members, local organisations, and service providers while recognising and celebrating the importance of reconciliation, respect, and meaningful partnerships with First Nations peoples.

Representing WestSide Community Lawyers on the day were Melissa Downie, our Wellbeing Support Officer, and Catherine Coleiro, CEO & Managing Lawyer, who enjoyed engaging with attendees and sharing information about the legal and support services available to our community.

Thank you to Anglicare SA, Taoundi Aboriginal College, Life Without Barriers and Uniting SA and all those involved in organising such an important community event. We are grateful to be part of a region committed to fostering understanding, inclusion, and stronger community connections.

✅ Law Week 2026 | Whyalla Wrap-Up

Last Thursday, WestSide Community Lawyers joined with Legal Services Commission of South Australia, Women's Legal Service SA and Family Violence Legal Service Aboriginal Corporation for a fantastic community event in Whyalla to celebrate Law Week 2026!

Held at the Alex Ramsay Community Hub, the afternoon featured:

🌭 A free community BBQ
👩‍⚖️ Chats with local lawyers about legal issues
📚 Community legal information and support services in the northern region
⚖️ A free drop-in legal clinic

It was fantastic to see the teamwork and collaboration between all the organisations coming together to create a welcoming and supportive space for the Whyalla community.

A special thank you to the Alex Ramsay Community Hub for having us, and to everyone who came along, asked questions, shared stories and enjoyed the BBQ!

Domestic and family violence can have lasting impacts on children and young people.

Some signs may be difficult to recognise and can present as changes in behaviour, anxiety, withdrawal or challenges at school. Early support and safe environments can make a significant difference to a child’s wellbeing and future outcomes.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we encourage our community to continue learning, supporting and creating safe spaces for those impacted.

If you or someone you know needs support, help is available 24/7 through 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732.

Domestic and family violence does not impact everyone equally.

For many people, barriers such as isolation, disability, culture, language, visa status and limited access to services can make seeking support more difficult.

This Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we acknowledge the complexity of these experiences and remind our community that support is available.

If you or someone you know needs support, contact 1800RESPECT on 1800 737 732 - available 24/7.
