This is an important update regarding the Business School’s Master of Commerce program for 2020 onwards. From Semester 1 2020, there will be a simpler and more flexible structure that will offer new students a reduced number of specialisations, but with additional of units as degree electives to ensure that student options are preserved. It is important that you note these changes and ensure your prospective students are aware. Any students with an existing offer will be contacted by us.
From 2020 onwards we will offer refocused areas of specialisation as follows:
Accounting
Business Analytics
Business Economics
Business Information Systems
Finance
Logistics and Supply Chain Management
Marketing
People, Managament and Organisations
Within the specialisations students will be able to tailor their choices, providing a more targeted focus to achieve the objectives of their degree. Students will gain an appreciation for the pathways during their first semester, and thus be able to make informed choices that benefit them. You can find the specialisation details on the course entry page here.
Here are some tips to help you advise students who may have been interested in specialisations not covered in the refocussed structure:
Students interested in Big Data in Business should consider the Business Analytics specialisation and tailored degree electives
Students interested in Banking should consider the Finance specialisation
Students interested in Quantitative Finance should consider the Business Analytics and Finance specialisations (or selecting units of interest from these)
Students interested in Aviation and Maritime Management or Infrastructure and Transport Management should consider the Logistics and Supply Chain Management specialisation, or the new Master of Transport degree offered by the Faculty of Engineering (the Business School teaches approximately 1/3 of the new course content)
A selection of Business Law and Business Sustainability units are now degree electives
Units in International Business, Project Management and Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship can be chosen as degree electives.
We believe this will greatly benefit our students and our research shows that most of our graduates choose specialisations covered within the new structure. Thank you for assisting us to convey this message positively to your clients and for your continued support in recruiting quality students for our Master of Commerce program.
We would also like to remind you that the Graduate Certificate and Diploma level pathways for the Master of Commerce will not be available from 2020 onwards. As well as let you know that due to the unprecedented popularity of our Business School programmes domestically and internationally, we will be applying tighter acceptance deadlines for students. We believe this will help you to guide your students to accept their offers earlier and ensure they have a place for the 2020 intakes (please note the deadlines to your student in their offer letters). As with the tighter deadline for accepting their offer, students applying via the Special Admissions Processes will also have revised acceptance deadlines, so please note those as well.
