Our peer educators are on the move and will be delivering education sessions to the Wheatbelt and Mid-West regions during the month of June.

First stop is York and partnering with York Country Women's Association (CWA) on 3 June at 9.30am. The York community will hear from one of our lived experience volunteers sharing her story of elder abuse and how we can stand up and advocate for ourselves and others as we age.

In this session, you can learn more about ageism, how to challenge it and what stereotypes and ageist attitudes to look out for to help keep seniors safer.

CWA York's beautiful Purple Road will be proudly on display here for World Elder Abuse Awareness. Bookings are essential by emailing: [email protected].

Law Week 2026 Day Five: Temporary Visas and Family Violence Fact Sheet

Are you on a temporary visa and feeling unsafe at home? Are you in an unsafe relationship and have worries about your visa if you leave your partner?

Many people on temporary visas have concerns about deportation if they leave violent relationships. Help is available. Our fact sheet on temporary visas and family violence answers the most common questions clients have when they have worries about their visa throughout a separation.

You can contact us for help or find the factsheet here on our website ➡️ https://elcs.org.au/community-legal-education/education-resources/

Law Week 2026 Day Four: Safety Planning Tips

Safety planning means thinking of ways to keep you and your children safe when living in a violent relationship.

There are many things that we can do to increase our safety overall when in these situations, such as packing an emergency bag, or keeping your phone charged.

If you are feeling unsafe at home, you can reach out to us directly or view our Safety Planning Information Sheet here which includes tips you may never have thought about ➡️

https://elcs.org.au/community-legal-education/education-resources/ Remember - your safety and wellbeing is really important.

Law Week 2026 Day Three: Family Violence and Boundary Setting

Family violence can take many forms, including emotional, financial, coercive control, and even using the legal system to intimidate or control someone.

Many people experiencing family violence may not recognise it for what it is, especially when coercive behaviours make them question their own reality. Do you know what healthy boundaries look like in a relationship? Do you know the warning signs to watch for, or what the cycle of violence actually means?

If you want to better understand family violence, how to identify healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviours, and how to set boundaries that protect your wellbeing, then our Family Violence and Boundary Setting resource is here to help.

Happy National Volunteer Week!

In 2025 our peer volunteers from the Older People's Rights Service provided over 300 volunteer hours and reached over 2000 community members through community education, senior events and our intergenerational program.

We are so grateful for these amazing ambassadors for seniors, we couldn't reach as many people in the community without them! Take a listen.
