Yesterday I bought my lunch - haven’t for a while but a month ago it cost $18.50 and with the card fee was $18.83. Post Albanese “fixing things” the business has put their price up to $19.50. Ok so there is no card fee but my lunch cost me an extra 67c.
The backstory to that is - the card fee is a percentage and has gone from 33c to 35c so the bank wins. The GST is a percentage so that has gone from $1.69 to $1.75, so the government wins. And the business trying to cover themselves now gets 59c extra. So THE ONLY person worse off is me, the customer … everyone else is making more. And as well as having to listen to Albanese crowing about making my coffee cheaper next month the Reserve Bank will say I’m spending too much money and put interest rates up again.
This doesn’t feel like rocket science … but far out it feels like the politicians are f***ing it up for all of us - and blaming us on top of it.
Guess I’ll make my noodles at home - sorry small business, hope you are OK to retire early 🤞🏻
