Reminder for WA driver’s licence holders: don’t forget to apply for the one-off $100 Fuel Support Payment through the ServiceWA app. This includes people who do not own a vehicle or have access to a vehicle. The WA Government has budgeted $198 million for this so-called one-off initiative, in the hope that people will use it for its intended purpose of purchasing almost a whole week’s worth of fuel to help ease the cost of living.

Learn about the Fuel Support Payment, a one-off $100 payment to help Western Australians with fuel costs, and how to claim through the ServiceWA app.

The Family Court of Western Australia operates in a legal environment where the use of generative artificial intelligence is subject to strict professional, ethical and forensic obligations. Generative AI must not be used as a substitute for human legal advice, independent professional judgment, legal research, or verification of factual and legal material.

The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia’s Practice Direction: Use of Artificial Intelligence applies to proceedings in the FCFCOA, Division 1 and Division 2, and emphasises accountability, verification of AI-generated content, protection of confidentiality, and the continuing responsibility of court users, lawyers and experts. That Practice Direction does not appear to apply directly to proceedings in the Family Court of Western Australia, as FCWA is a separate court and is not identified in the scope of the Practice Direction. However, its principles are relevant by analogy and provide a prudent benchmark for the responsible use of AI in Western Australian family law matters, particularly when read alongside Western Australian guidance such as the Supreme Court of Western Australia’s Guidelines for the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence and the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia’s statement on AI in Australian legal practice.

📢 Australia’s under-16 social media ban has now taken effect.

From today, children under 16 are being restricted from holding accounts on major social media platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, X, Snapchat and others. The Federal Government has described this as a world-first move aimed at reducing online harms for young people.
social media ban.

What this means in practice:

➖Parents and carers may see new prompts on apps asking for proof of age or location.

➖Schools and youth services may need to support teens adjusting to a changed online environment.

➖Businesses and content creators who rely on youth audiences may prepare for shifts in engagement and compliance expectations.

At Paragon Legal Solutions, we will be watching how this is rolled out.

If you would like advice about how these changes affect your family, school, or business, especially where online safety, privacy, or youth-facing services are involved — we are here to help.

Children under the age of 16 will be banned from using social media in Australia from the end of next year after the Senate approved the world’s strictest rules.

Recent Fair Work decisions confirm that employers must request, not require, employees to work public holidays — even in industries like retail, hospitality and logistics where holiday staffing is common. This ruling reinforces that employees have a genuine right to refuse unless the request is reasonable in all the circumstances.

If you’re unsure how this impacts your rostering practices, employment contracts or HR policies, now is the time to review them. Paragon Legal Solutions can help you understand your obligations, minimise risk and implement compliant processes before the busy holiday period.

Supermarket giants may have to pay back hundreds of millions of dollars for failing to ask managers if they wanted to work public holidays before rostering them on.

Today, we celebrate fathers — the mentors, protectors, and role models whose influence stretches far beyond their families.

At Paragon Legal Solutions, we recognise the important role fathers play in shaping character, instilling values, and encouraging growth. Fathers inspire confidence, provide guidance, and demonstrate resilience through both their words and their actions. Whether balancing the responsibilities of family life with professional commitments or offering wisdom in times of challenge, their impact is lasting and profound.

We are proud to work alongside so many incredible fathers — among our clients, colleagues, and team members — who remind us daily of the power of dedication, leadership, and care. Their ability to nurture and support while also driving progress in their communities and workplaces is truly inspiring.

To all the fathers, grandfathers, and father-figures who show up with strength, patience, and love — thank you for the countless ways you shape the world around you.

We honour you today and every day.

Happy Father’s Day.

From 10 December 2025, major platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Snapchat, and YouTube will be legally required to block users under 16. Non-compliance could mean fines of up to A$49.5 million.

This world-first law aims to protect young Australians from cyberbullying, predatory behaviour, and harmful content. It also introduces strict age verification measures, raising important legal and privacy questions for both families and businesses.

At Paragon Legal Solutions, we are closely monitoring these developments and their impact on compliance, privacy, and online safety. If your business, school, or organisation is unsure how these changes may affect you, our team can provide tailored legal advice.

Family Law Updates That May Affect You

From 10 June 2025, important reforms to the Family Law Act 1975 (Cth) will come into effect.

• The court must now take into account the economic impact of family violence, where relevant
• Companion animals (family pets) can now be included in court orders

These reforms could significantly affect your legal rights and entitlements, particularly if you are separating or in the process of negotiating property matters.

Do you need advice on how these changes may impact you?

Contact the dedicated family lawyers at Paragon Legal Solutions to discuss your situation and plan your next steps with confidence.
