This week, the CCLS team came together to livestream the National Reconciliation Week Breakfast from Boorloo (Perth).

The Breakfast was an opportunity to pause, reflect, listen and learn alongside communities across WA, and to continue the important conversations at the heart of this year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, .

This year’s theme reminds us that reconciliation is not something we observe from the sidelines. It calls on all of us to actively contribute to respectful relationships, truth-telling, and meaningful change in our workplaces, communities and everyday lives.

We thank the organisers and speakers for sharing their stories, knowledge and perspectives, and we remain committed to continuing our own reconciliation journey through learning, reflection and action.

National Reconciliation Week 2026 | 27 May – 3 June

This National Reconciliation Week, we reflect on what it means to be All In, the theme for NRW 2026.

At CCLS, we know that financial and consumer rights don't exist in a vacuum. Economic exclusion and financial abuse can manifest in unique ways within Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and meaningful reconciliation must include access to justice and consideration of the features and needs of the community.

We are proud to be on our own reconciliation journey through our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan, guided by our values of respect, compassion, collaboration, trustworthiness, and innovation.

We acknowledge the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation, the traditional owners of the land on which we work.

This week, we commit to listening, learning, and continuing to walk alongside First Nations communities because reconciliation is everyone's responsibility. We are All In.

Yesterday on National Sorry Day, we paused.

The CCLS team and our Hay Street Hub community came together to watch Genocide in the Wildflower State, a powerful and confronting film that reminds us why truth-telling matters.

As we head into National Reconciliation Week 2026, we are All In. That means facing our history honestly and committing to do better every single day.

We acknowledge the Whadjuk people of the Noongar Nation and pay our deepest respects to all Stolen Generations survivors and their families.

This week, members of our CCLS team laced up and joined the legal community for the Law Access Walk for Justice in celebration of Law Week!

The walk brought together members of the legal profession, the judiciary, and community organisations to celebrate the incredible pro bono work of WA's legal sector and raise vital funds for Law Access, a charitable organisation connecting people who cannot afford a lawyer with the support they need.

This year, 770 people came together to make a real difference, raising over $160,000 to help expand access to pro bono legal support for those who need it most.

We are proud to stand alongside so many dedicated advocates working towards a fairer, more inclusive legal community.

It's National Volunteer Appreciation Week, and we couldn't let it pass without celebrating the incredible people who make the work of CCLS possible - our volunteers.

Every week, our volunteers give their time, skills, and expertise to help everyday Western Australians navigate some of the most stressful moments of their lives, dealing with debt, scams, financial abuse, and more. Without them, so many people across WA would face these challenges alone.

Thousands of hours. Countless lives changed. We simply could not do this without you.

To every volunteer who has given their time and care to our Telephone Advice Line and beyond... thank you, thank you, thank you. You are the heart of what we do.

Want to get involved? We'd love to hear from you 👉 cclswa.org.au/volunteer-with-us/

CCLS welcomes the progress of Federal Parliament’s inquiry into the relationship between domestic, family and sexual violence (DFSV) and su***de.

This reflects what we see on the frontline every day. Su***de risk in DFSV context is not purely a health issue.
Many of the people we support are living with the impact of coerced debt and financial abuse, creating a deep sense of pressure and entrapment.

Community legal centres play a critical early intervention role, supporting people before issues escalate.

We will continue to advocate for safer systems and reforms that better support people experiencing DFSV.

Our CCLS team was pleased to be part of this week's Perth Law Careers Fair hosted by The Blackstone Society – UWA Law Students’ Society.

It was a great opportunity to connect with students, have meaningful conversations about volunteering, and highlight the role community legal centres play in improving access to justice in WA.

We look forward to staying in touch with those interested in getting involved at CCLS.
