π» IMPORTANT NOTES WHEN SPONSORING A NEW PARTNER TO AUSTRALIA AFTER DIVORCE π»
π― After a divorce, there are several important points you need to keep in mind to improve your chances of successfully sponsoring a new partner to Australia.
1οΈβ£ If you have never sponsored a partner before
βοΈ This is usually the simpler situation. Once your divorce is legally finalised, you can sponsor your new partner to Australia. Your application must include strong evidence of your relationship across the following aspects:
π Financial aspect: proof that you share financial responsibilities
π Household aspect: evidence that you live together as a couple
π Social aspect: proof that your relationship is known publicly
π Commitment aspect: long-term plans such as living arrangements, work, children, and future goals in Australia
2οΈβ£ If you have previously sponsored a partner
βοΈ According to immigration regulations, you need to wait at least 5 years from the date you lodged the previous sponsorship application before you can sponsor a new partner.
βοΈ The Department of Home Affairs will still focus mainly on the four key relationship aspects listed above.
