What could estate practice look like with people at the centre?

Estates with Compassion is more than just a way of supporting families. We’re building a practitioner-led community around a more compassionate, collaborative and conflict-reducing approach to estate practice.

And we want the people who will be part of it to help shape what comes next.

We’re now seeking expressions of interest from Founding Members and Content Specialists who want to contribute their ideas, experience and expertise.

Interested in being part of it from the beginning? Fill out this short form: https://form.jotform.com/262430740009852

Mediation is not a courtroom without the Judge.

It's an opportunity to step away from positions, understand what actually needs to be resolved and explore whether there is a workable way forward.

Not every matter can or should resolved through mediation. But where it is safe and appropriate, it can give families an opportunity to retain more control over what happens next.

Sometimes progress begins with a different kind of conversation.

Want to find out whether mediation could be an option for your family? Call 1300 ALA LAW to speak with our team or learn more at alalaw.com.au.

What if we could prevent some estate disputes before they begin?

That question sits at the heart of Estates with Compassion.

We believe good estate practice isn't only about getting the legal outcome right. It is also about recognising the people, relationships and potential conflict surrounding the legal issues and considering what can be done earlier.

Through intentional planning, early conflict identification, collaborative practice and guided resolution, we are exploring what it means to put people at the centre of the way we practice.

There’s much more to come. Follow Estates with Compassion as we start the conversation.

Can technology and smarter funding close the gap between city and country?

Virtual consultations, online dispute resolution, AI, deferred-payment and funding models - these could transform access for regional families.

Or they could leave people behind.

We want to know what's actually working on the ground, and what isn't. If you have a view - as a professional or a community member - tell us in the survey.

Last week, Jacinta Watkins and Jessica Bristow from ALA Law headed to the Blue Mountains Law Society 2026 Succession Conference, proudly flying the flags for Estates with Compassion and LawManage as sponsors of this year’s event.

It was an especially exciting few days for Estates with Compassion, with Jacinta finally having the opportunity to introduce the framework to the succession law community and start some fantastic conversations about compassionate and collaborative practice, early conflict identification and what it could look like to put people more firmly at the centre of the way we practise.

Jacinta also joined MaryAnn de Mestre, Marie Brownell and Darryl Browne for their workshop, Power, Guardianship and Control: Navigating the Law and Practice of Enduring Powers - with a little role-playing thrown in to keep everyone on their toes!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the stand, asked questions, shared ideas and showed such genuine enthusiasm for what we’re building. We even received our first Founding Member expressions of interest during the conference!

And now, we’d love to open that conversation to the wider Wills and Estates community.

We’re inviting expressions of interest from Founding Members and Content Specialists who would like to be involved in shaping Estates with Compassion from the beginning - sharing ideas, experience and expertise as we explore how education, resources, professional connection and collaboration can better support practitioners and the families they serve.

Interested in being part of what comes next? Register here → https://form.jotform.com/262430740009852

This is only the beginning, and we’re very excited to see where the community helps us take it.
