Left Out of a Will? Don’t make this common mistake.

Finding out you've been left out of a will can be upsetting, frustrating, and overwhelming. In those moments, it's understandable to want a quick resolution BUT rushing into a settlement before understanding your rights could leave you significantly worse off.

We often see people accept an early offer simply to avoid stress or the possibility of going to court, without fully understanding the strength of their claim or what they may actually be entitled to receive.

Before you agree to anything:

✅ Take a step back and avoid making rushed decisions.
✅ Get legal advice early so you understand your rights and options.
✅ Protect your position by ensuring the estate isn't distributed before your claim has been properly assessed.

Every situation is different, and what may seem like a reasonable offer at first could be far less than what you're entitled to under the law.

Recently, Lamrocks team members, Simone and Melissa attended the Farewell Dinner for Judge Dillon Morley and Judge Dunkley at Oatlands House, hosted by the West Family Law Practitioners Association. It was also lovely to see Nicole, who recently left Lamrocks, at the dinner as well.

The evening celebrated the outstanding contributions both judges have made to the legal profession, the courts, and the many practitioners whose careers they have influenced along the way.

It was a particular honour for Simone to deliver the toast to Judge Morley. Before being appointed to the bench, Dillon was a Director at Lamrocks and a respected mentor to Simone during her early years in family law. Since leaving Lamrocks in 2013 to join the Bar, Dillon's distinguished career has seen him appointed as a Judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) in 2019.

Judge Dunkley has also made a remarkable contribution to the legal profession, having built his career as a local practitioner before his judicial appointment and service to the Court.

The evening was a fitting tribute to two highly respected members of the legal community. We thank both judges for their dedication, leadership and service, and wish them every success in the next chapter of their journeys.
