Skilled visa processing priorities have changed.

From 19 September 2026, new processing priorities apply to specified skilled visas, with priority given to areas including construction, healthcare and teaching.

Priority processing does not guarantee approval, so applicants still need to meet the relevant visa requirements and prepare a complete application.

If your occupation falls within a priority area, speak with KNpact Migration Australia to understand how the changes may affect your application strategy.

Planning workforce changes under a Labour Agreement? Timing now matters more than ever.

From 2026, Home Affairs supports only one variation per agreement year, with no variation requests accepted during the first six months of a new agreement.

If occupation changes, nomination requirements or workforce needs are likely to change, early planning can help avoid unnecessary delays.

KNpact Migration Australia can help employers assess upcoming requirements and plan the right pathway before a variation becomes urgent.

Subclass 482

A new 5-tier processing priority now applies to Subclass 482 applications.

Effective 19 September 2026, Ministerial Direction 121 introduces a revised order for Skills in Demand (Subclass 482) applications. Priority starts with identified sectors such as construction, healthcare, teaching, agriculture and resources, followed by the Specialist Skills stream, other onshore applications, qualifying offshore applications and remaining cases.

For Australian employers relying on skilled workers and applicants considering a 482 pathway, the new priority structure may affect how applications move through processing.

Planning a Subclass 482 application or employer sponsorship? Contact KNpact Migration Australia to discuss your circumstances and the next steps.

Subclass 186 processing priorities have changed from 19 September 2026.

Under Ministerial Direction 122, Employer Nomination Scheme (Subclass 186) applications are now processed through a revised priority order. Priority is given first to applications connected with key sectors including construction, healthcare, teaching, agriculture, aquaculture, fishing, resources, law enforcement and defence. Other onshore applications follow, then eligible offshore applications and remaining cases.

For employers planning permanent skilled sponsorship, or applicants preparing a Subclass 186 pathway, understanding where the application sits within the new order can help with better planning and expectations.

Need clarity on how the new priority order may apply to your Subclass 186 application? Speak with KNpact Migration Australia for professional migration assistance.
