Breast Cancer Awareness month

Getting your legal affairs in order - a story from a cancer survivor.

“I was diagnosed with cancer. It was a confusing and busy time with appointments, blood tests, PET scan, eco cardiogram etc.

The day before I was to start chemo, I had a lot of ‘what ifs’ going through my mind. What if the medication doesn’t agree with me and I have an adverse reaction? What if it makes me unconscious? What if I lose my mental capacity? So, I did the right thing for my family and called my lawyer.

TRADIE HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

The construction industry is one of the most high risk industries to work in. Statistics from SafeWork NSW show workers in the concrete construction services industry, formworkers (and other structural tradies) are twice as likely to have an injury resulting in more than 6 months off work.

An injured construction worker came to us after falling from a ladder on a construction site. He’d been trying to deal with the insurer and his employer directly and wasn’t getting anywhere. He was without pay for several weeks and paying medical bills out of his pocket.

After seeing Barwick Boitano Lawyers, in less than a week, we were able to claim all of his lost pay from the time he was injured and make sure all his medical expenses, ambulance and hospital fees were reimbursed to him and covered. Lump sum compensation for his injuries is also being investigated.

Properties sold or leased with a pool in NSW must have a certificate of compliance (or non-compliance) included in the contract.

If you buy a property with a non-compliant pool, you’ll have 90 days from settlement to fix any areas of non-compliance. This can add significant and unexpected additional expenses to a purchase, if you haven’t gotten the right advice from a lawyer beforehand.

If you’re buying or selling a property with a pool or spa, it’s important to make sure the contract complies with the Swimming Pool Act by having the relevant documents.
