This case highlights the importance of having proper Wills and PoAs in place!

A recent NSW decision where a couple, completely unrelated to the deceased, were successful in enforcing a promise made by an elderly deceased woman to leave them her property worth approximately $40M in return for them looking after her for the rest of her life, amongst other things.

The NSW Government has announced that the Retail and Other Commercial Leases (COVID-19) Regulation will be extended until 31 December 2020.

The announcement sets out that landlords can claim a 25% land tax concession where they provide rent relief to tenants in financial distress from October to December 2020.

Tenants will be required to re-establish their eligibility under the extension of the Regulation if they wish to request further rent relief.

The Family Court of Australia and the Federal Circuit Court of Australia have seen a significant increase in urgent applications filed since restrictions have been imposed as a result of the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, the Courts have established two dedicated, national specialist lists aimed at dealing with urgent applications caused directly by COVID-19. If you need assistance please contact us.
