Even when you both agree, it can still be helpful to put your arrangements in writing.

Things can change. You may remember things differently later, or your circumstances may change.

Having it in writing gives both sides something clear to refer back to, especially when property, finances or children are involved.

If you’ve separated and want to make sure your arrangements are clear, talk to Taylor Legal.

Most business disputes do not start in a courtroom.

They start in a conversation that never happened or an agreement that was never written down.

Going into business with someone is one of the most significant financial decisions you can make, and it deserves the same care as any other major commitment, regardless of how well you know the person.

The patterns we see most often are not dramatic. No formal agreement because everyone trusted each other. Workloads that shifted without anyone adjusting expectations.

Financial arrangements that stayed informal. Exit plans that were never discussed.
None of these are unusual. But all of them can become serious problems when circumstances shift in ways nobody anticipated.

A well drafted partnership or shareholders agreement gives everyone clarity on how the business operates, how decisions get made, and what happens if someone wants to leave. Getting that right at the start is almost always easier than resolving it later.

If you are entering a business partnership or reviewing an existing arrangement, make sure the foundations are properly in place.

Estate planning has always been about protecting what matters. The question is whether your plan accounts for how much of your life now exists online.

Social media accounts, private messages, years of family photos and videos, banking and subscriptions, online memberships. These things do not simply disappear when you pass away. They continue to exist, and without any direction from you, the people you leave behind may have no way to access them, manage them, or even know they exist.

Most Wills were not written with digital assets in mind. That gap is becoming increasingly significant as more of our lives move online, and it is one of the areas worth addressing when reviewing or putting together an estate plan.

Knowing what you have, where it is, and who you want to have access to it is a practical and increasingly important part of planning for the future.

If you would like to understand how your digital life fits into your estate plan, our team can help you think it through.

From 1 July 2026, there are new legal requirements that affect many property transactions across Australia.

While we've always verified our clients' identities, the expanded Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (AML/CTF) laws now require us to ask additional questions in certain matters.

Depending on your transaction, we may ask how you're funding a property purchase, where those funds originate, and whether you're a Politically Exposed Person (PEP). In some circumstances, the law may also require us to report certain information to AUSTRAC.
These aren't additional steps introduced by Taylor Legal. They're legal obligations that apply to law firms across Australia.

We understand these changes may be unfamiliar, but our team will guide you through the process and explain what's required every step of the way. Any information you provide will be handled securely and in accordance with Australian privacy laws.

If you have any questions before your matter begins, we're always happy to help.

The most expensive legal problem a business can face is usually one that could have been avoided entirely.

Good legal advice is not just for when something goes wrong. It is what helps businesses structure themselves properly from the start, identify risk before it becomes a problem, and make decisions with confidence rather than guesswork.

Whether you are starting out, scaling up, or protecting what you have already built, having the right legal guidance in place means fewer surprises and better outcomes across the board.

If there is an area of your business you have been meaning to look at, or a decision coming up that carries some weight, it is worth having a conversation before it becomes something bigger.

It is one of the most common things we hear.

A contract has already been signed, a concern has come up, and the options available are significantly more limited than they would have been a week earlier. It is not a reflection of poor judgement.

Contracts can be lengthy, technical, and easy to move through quickly when you are excited about a property or eager to get a deal done. But the detail in those documents matters, and some of it carries real consequences.

A contract review before you sign gives you the opportunity to understand exactly what you are agreeing to. Conditions that may seem standard can vary significantly between contracts.

There may be clauses that affect your timeline, your obligations, or your ability to exit if circumstances change. There may be aspects of the property that are disclosed in the contract that are easy to miss without knowing what to look for.

It is a straightforward step that takes far less time than resolving a problem after the fact. And it can make the difference between entering a transaction with confidence or navigating it with uncertainty.

If you are looking at a contract and want to understand what it actually means before you commit, our team can help.

Legal matters rarely arrive fully formed.

More often, they begin quietly as something that seemed manageable, a disagreement, an unresolved arrangement, a document that was never quite finalised.

What tends to change the outcome is timing. The earlier a situation is looked at properly, the more options exist to resolve it well. The longer it sits, the more complicated it can become.

Across estate planning, family law, property, and business, we see the same pattern. Small gaps that, over time, become much bigger issues than they needed to be.

If something has been sitting unresolved, it's worth understanding where you stand before circumstances make that harder to do.
