👍 A WIN FOR SMALL BUSINESS – ATO CREDIT CARD PAYMENTS TO CONTINUE

The Shoalhaven Business Chamber welcomes the announcement that the Australian Taxation Office will continue accepting credit card payments until 30 June 2027, following concerns raised by businesses across the country.

Last week, we wrote to Federal Treasurer Dr Jim Chalmers and Federal Member for Gilmore Fiona Phillips MP, advocating against the proposed removal of credit card payments and highlighting the significant impact this would have on small businesses, particularly our seasonal hospitality and tourism operators.

We would like to sincerely thank Fiona Phillips MP for her prompt response to our correspondence and for taking our concerns directly to her parliamentary colleagues.

While this announcement is a welcome outcome, the extension is temporary. We encourage the ATO and Federal Government to continue consulting with businesses to establish a practical, long-term solution.

This is why business advocacy matters. When our members raise concerns, we take them seriously and work to ensure their voices are heard by those making decisions that affect them.

Thank you to the members who brought this issue to our attention and gave us the opportunity to advocate on their behalf.

The federal government will temporarily cover credit card surcharges after businesses warned that losing the payment option would put them under pressure.
