An important decision was handed down in the Federal Court this morning. It sounds like a joke but is far from it. The case is Roxanne Tickle v Giggle for Girls and relates to gender identity discrimination as opposed to s*x discrimination. Have a read and see how our embedded landscape is changing.

Israel finished 5th in the Eurovision Song Contest thanks to the public. You can tell something fishy was going on when 25 of the national delegates gave Israel zero points, but the voting public gave Israel the largest number of points of all the participants.
After the delegates votes, we were lagging in the lower half of the competition, but a huge public vote shot us up to a temporary first place but we ended up 5th which, considering the hate, was incredibly encouraging to us in Israel. A typical example was the UK jury gave Israel zero points but the British voting p***c gave Israel 12 points. Thank you those of you who took the time to vote for us. We came 5th to a boy in a skirt from Switzerland spinning around on a metal disc which seems to sum up Europe these days. My suggestion to Eurovision going forward is to drop your delegate voting and simply leave it up to the public to decide. I came away from an overlong evening of many boring and weird acts to discover the Eurovision reflects what is going on in Western societies here you get one impression, a distateful one, from students on campuses, but a completely different impression by the silent majority in a very divided Western society,

'I've always wanted to create drama in my pictures, which is why I paint people. The simplest human gestures tell stories.' - Lucian Freud was born on this day 1922. 🗓️

This painting shows Kitty Garman, Freud’s first wife. Although it is hard to tell from the painting, Garman is pregnant with their second child. The setting, the dog’s pose, and the way her robe appears to have slipped off her shoulder, gives this image an intimate feel. This contrasts with the anonymous title of the work, and Garman’s blank expression. Freud was known for depicting his sitters – often friends and lovers – in a way that suggests intimacy, but often feel uncomfortable for the viewer. 🎨

Find this painting on display in our Tate Modern exhibition Capturing the Moment, until 28 April 2024. https://bit.ly/3mSuEQg

'Sculpture communicates an immediate sense of life' - Dame Barbara Hepworth, one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century. 🔨💚

Here she is in January 1962 working on a plaster prototype of her work 'Single Form (memorial)'. As with all Hepworth's work, the structure and rhythm of the sculpture demonstrates the artist's instinctive feel for her material.

Immerse yourself in Hepworth’s world in Barbara Hepworth: Art & Life at Tate St Ives until 1 May 2023. https://bit.ly/3KbFcBM
