NSW Fair Trading has taken decisive action in response to misconduct to ensure accountability and to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws in the property sector. Prosecutions in recent months include:

· Rachel Fares: Sentenced to a 12-month Community Corrections Order for misappropriating $1,800 from the Rental Bond Board and laundering $7,400 in suspected proceeds of crime.

· Matthew Rizk: Sentenced to an 18-month Community Corrections Order with 40 hours of community service for misappropriating over $15,000 from 15 rental bonds.

NSW Fair Trading is working to prevent and act on breaches of property laws for a fair and safe marketplace in NSW.

The CPD year for all licence and certificate holders starts on 1 July each year and ends on 30 June the following year.

Licensed agents must complete 5 hours of training on compulsory topics relevant to the class of licence you hold each CPD year. Those 5 hours of training must include at least 4 compulsory topics relevant to your area of practice. This is an increase from 4 hours of compulsory topics required in the 2023 - 2024 year.
