This is not an announcement we ever wanted to make.

After many years of providing Legal Aid services, The Family Law Co. has made the difficult decision to close our books indefinitely to new clients seeking representation under grants of Legal Aid. From the beginning, accessibility has been fundamental to who we are. We believe that a person's ability to access quality family law representation should not be determined by their financial circumstances.

For years, we have continued this work despite increasing financial pressures because we know how important it is - particularly for vulnerable people navigating family violence, complex parenting matters and circumstances where access to legal representation can make an enormous difference.

Unfortunately, continuing to absorb the growing gap between the cost of providing these services and the funding available is no longer sustainable.

We remain deeply supportive of Legal Aid and the essential role it plays in our justice system. We also strongly support meaningful investment and reform that allows private practitioners to continue undertaking this important work.

This decision has been incredibly difficult. We sincerely hope for a future where access to justice is not determined by a person's bank balance, postcode or personal circumstances.
