We recently swapped the office for the fairway at the local Suncoast Community Legal Service Golf Day, with our Directors and Practice Group Leaders Jacob Corbett, Bridie Edwards, Peter Griffin and David Richmond taking on the 4-person Ambrose. ⛳

We’ll be honest… the golfing results weren’t exactly career-defining 😂 But there were plenty of laughs along the way!

Eddie Edwards was holding down the Bradley & Bray tent on Hole 11, where we sponsored the Longest Marshmallow Drive, won by Andrew Baty. 🏌️ Congratulations also to Harry Blaydes, who took home the Bradley & Bray Raffle prize! 🥳

A great afternoon was had by all with plenty of laughs, a little golf, and of course a great fundraiser for this important local legal service.

When a company comes under serious financial pressure, terms like administration and liquidation often get used interchangeably, however they describe very different legal processes with very different outcomes. 📊

Can I appoint more than one Power of Attorney? 👫

We get asked this a lot. While the short answer is yes, the more important question is whether having multiple attorneys is the right choice for your family.

Queensland law allows you to appoint attorneys to act:
🔹 Jointly (making decisions together)
🔹 Severally (making decisions independently)
🔹 Jointly and severally (offering flexibility)
🔹 As successive or substitute attorneys

As you can imagine, each option has its own advantages and potential challenges. The right structure depends on your family dynamics, the people you've chosen, and how you want important decisions to be made. Today we’re celebrating Bridie’s 7-year work anniversary with Bradley & Bray Lawyers... and what a journey it’s been! 🤩

Bridie first joined us in 2019 as a law student, and since then she’s been anything but still. From completing her Master of Business Law and taking on new challenges, to earning well-deserved promotions and becoming a Partner of our firm, Bridie’s career has gone from strength to strength.

Along the way, she’s also made her mark across the profession, becoming the youngest Councillor ever elected to the Queensland Law Society and sharing her expertise as an industry consultant with the Legal Tech Advisory Group. (We’re pretty sure she’s found a few extra hours in the day that the rest of us haven’t! 😄)

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate this milestone with Bridie and so grateful for the knowledge, energy and leadership she brings to our team every day.

Can you move into your new home before Settlement? 🏠

It might surprise you, but sometimes the answer is yes.

While it's not common, there are situations where moving in before Settlement makes sense. Perhaps Settlement has been delayed because the seller's bank can't discharge the mortgage in time, or you've already vacated your current home and have nowhere else to go.

In Queensland, the standard REIQ Residential Contract allows for what's known as Early Possession – but only if both the buyer and seller agree.

Before you start unpacking, it's important to understand that moving in early comes with responsibilities. You may need to:

📄 Arrange appropriate insurance
👨‍🌾 Look after the property until Settlement
👍 Agree to specific conditions with the seller
📝 Have a plan in place if Settlement is unexpectedly delayed or doesn't proceed

Every situation is different, so it's worth getting legal advice before accepting or offering Early Possession.

It's fair to say that most people understand the importance of having a Will, so let's look at how an Enduring Power of Attorney can protect you while you're still here.

An EPOA allows you to appoint someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf (personal, financial or health decisions) when you no longer have capacity to make those decisions. An Attorney must act in accordance with their powers under the document, and in your best interests. For an Enduring Power of Attorney to be valid, it must be in the approved form.
