The State Government has today withdrawn their legislation to amend the Return to Work Act.

Let's be very clear, YOU made the difference. In less than a week, 1000 workers wrote to every member of the Labor government expressing your concerns, it mattered. It mattered a lot.

This action was integral for showing government why it needs to properly consult with workers on legislation.

The first hurdle has been cleared, but there's still work to be done.

The government intends to introduce new leglislation tomorrow, (we are waiting to see the text of the new bill, details we're aware of are in the comments⬇️) whilst it's expected to be much better than the initial bill and is set to be a net positive for injured workers, there are many issues within the system.

We're a united Union Movement in South Australia, and one thing is clear, we'll continue standing up for injured workers, no matter who's in government.

The amendments to the ReturnToWork Act in essence seek to eliminate any argument of “combination” relating to injuries that have developed as a result of overcompensation, altered gait, or use of medication as a consequence of a workplace injury.

This will have a drastic impact on all claims, not only those who are on the cusp of becoming a seriously injured worker (impairment over 30% or more) as a consequence of a workplace injury and consequential injuries, but those who would be able to combine a variety of injuries to seek a higher lump sum compensation payment.

SA Unions says the state's new Labor government is trying to rush through legislation to make it more difficult for workers to claim compensation for multiple injuries caused by the same workplace incident.
