Yesterday our team of solicitors enjoyed a well-deserved development day aboard a Captain Cook Cruise, taking in the sights of Sydney Harbour while spending valuable time together outside the office.

With delicious food and drinks, plenty of opportunities to connect, it was a fantastic chance to strengthen relationships and reflect on the importance of teamwork. Despite the less than perfect weather, spirits remained high and the team thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

The final stage of the reforms recommended by the 2021 Statutory Review of Strata Laws have now commenced.

• From 1 October 2026 all new or re-elected strata committee members appointed on or after 1 October 2026 must complete the free, online training provided by NSW Fair Trading via the Strata Hub.
• The training takes approx. 1 hour and must be completed within 3 months of appointment or re-election.
• Failure to complete the training within the 3-month window results in automatic removal from the committee.
• Two-lot strata schemes OR committee members filling a casual vacancy for less than 3 months are exempt from this mandatory training requirement.
• Existing committee members are not obliged but are encouraged to undertake the free training.

Practice Tip: In due course practitioners acting for prospective purchasers may wish to include compliance with this training requirement as part of their pre-exchange enquiries to evaluate committee compliance and overall scheme management.
