Last Wednesday it was our absolute pleasure to be invited to the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony at Inaburra School to present The Willis & Bowring Award for Outstanding Commitment and Passion to Legal Studies to Sophia Whitbread.

Sophia is an extremely deserving recipient of this award, and an outstanding student who intends to continue with her passion for the profession and become a future young member of the profession. We wish her all the best with her upcoming HSC exams and her progression into university and beyond.

We wish all the students currently studying for their exams the best of luck in their chosen futures.

On Saturday 12 September 2026, Willis & Bowring proudly participated in a free community education event at Olsen’s Farewells, Sutherland.

The event, Pre-Planning & Pastries, was held at Olsen’s Cottage and offered morning tea to guests while learning about:
1. Prepaid funerals,
2. Accessing home care support, financial considerations when moving into aged care and retirement villages, and social security entitlements,
3. Estate Planning documents (including Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney and Appointments of Enduring Guardian), and
4. Legal aspects of administering a deceased estate.

Our Jessica Calleja gave an excellent presentation on the last of these topics.

The event was a great success!
It was well-attended with many commending the valuable insights shared by the speakers.

Our Family Law team recently attended the Hunter Valley Family Law Conference, taking the opportunity to further develop their knowledge and education.

They also meet Sunny, an emotional support dog at Newcastle Family Law Courts. Sunny’s role is to provide support to vulnerable witnesses and litigants, including sitting beside them in the courtroom while they give evidence.

On Saturday, Pam had the pleasure of attending the 2026 Sutherland Hospital Gala Dinner hosted by the Jacaranda Foundation.

It was a wonderful evening filled with community spirit, as local businesses, healthcare staff and members of the Sutherland Shire came together to raise vital funds to improve cancer care, education and research at Sutherland Hospital.
