Planning to apply for an Australian skilled migration visa? If your nominated occupation requires a VETASSESS Professional Skills Assessment, make sure you account for the updated fees.

Effective 9 September 2026, VETASSESS increased its fees for the following services:

🔹 Priority Processing: $825 → $863
🔹 Post-485 Assessment: $852 → $891
🔹 Skills Assessment Renewal: $473 → $495

📌 What you need to know:

✅ Applications received before 9 September 2026 are charged at the previous rates.

✅ The listed fees exclude GST, which may apply depending on your Australian tax residency status.

✅ These fee increases do not apply to trade occupation assessments.

🚨 ACTUALIZACIONES IMPORTANTES SOBRE LA VISA DE ESTUDIANTE PARA AUSTRALIA (Subclases 500 y 590) 🚨

Si estás estudiando actualmente en Australia o planeando tu próxima visa, han llegado cambios importantes con efecto a partir del 2 de octubre de 2026.

Aquí tienes los puntos clave que debes conocer:

🚫 Restricciones para solicitudes desde dentro del país (*onshore*): La mayoría de los titulares de visas temporales ya no pueden solicitar una visa de estudiante o de tutor de estudiante (*Student Guardian*) estando en Australia. Si no cumples con los requisitos para una exención, deberás realizar la solicitud desde fuera del país.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Normas estrictas para dependientes: Ya no es posible añadir familiares a tu visa una vez que esta ha sido concedida; no existen excepciones en este caso. La inclusión de dependientes en la solicitud inicial ahora está restringida a estudiantes de doctorado, solicitantes patrocinados por DFAT o el Departamento de Defensa, becarios extranjeros y estudiantes elegibles de la región del Pacífico o la ASEAN.

✅ Exenciones para solicitudes dentro del país: Aún puedes solicitar la visa desde Australia si:
• Vas a cursar estudios de un nivel superior dentro del Marco de Cualificaciones de Australia (AQF).
• Necesitas hasta 12 meses adicionales para completar tu curso con el mismo centro educativo.
• Estás cursando un doctorado, estudios escolares o cuentas con patrocinio de DFAT o del Departamento de Defensa.

🎓 10 SPECIALIST EDUCATION POINTS CONTINUE FOR ELIGIBLE STEM QUALIFICATIONS

There’s a new update for skilled migration applicants with eligible Australian research qualifications.

The Migration (Fields of Education) Instrument 2026 (LIN 26/057) was registered on 24 September 2026 and commenced on 25 September 2026.

📌 What does this mean?

The new instrument replaces the previous 2016 instrument but keeps the existing policy settings for specialist education points.

Eligible applicants may continue to claim 10 points under the General Skilled Migration points test if they meet the requirements.

🎓 The qualification must generally be:

✅ An Australian Master’s by Research or Doctoral degree
✅ Completed with at least 2 academic years of study at an Australian institution
✅ In an approved field of education

🔬 Approved fields include:
• Natural & Physical Sciences
• Information Technology
• Engineering & Related Technologies

📍 Applies to points-tested:
🇦🇺 Subclass 189
🇦🇺 Subclass 190
🇦🇺 Subclass 491
🇦🇺 Subclass 489

⚠️ Important: This is not a new 10-point bonus. The update ensures the existing specialist education points continue without interruption after the previous instrument is replaced.

🇦🇺 CHILD VISA UPDATE: WHAT'S CHANGED IN 2026?

If you're preparing a Child Visa application for Australia, there's a recent administrative update worth knowing about.

The Migration (Arrangements for Child Visa Applications) Instrument 2026 (LIN 26/081) commenced on 2 September 2026, replacing the previous arrangements from 2016.

The updated instrument confirms the approved forms and lodgement arrangements for several Child Visa pathways:

👧 Child (Migrant) – Class AH
📄 Form 47CH

🏠 Child (Residence) – Class BT
📄 Form 47CH

⏳ Extended Temporary – Class TK
📄 Form 918

💡 The good news: This isn't a major change to Child Visa eligibility. The Department describes the changes as largely minor and technical, with existing arrangements generally continuing.

📌 The instrument also maintains the existing provision relating to certain adoptions in Pakistan, which remains the only country specifically covered by those adoption provisions.

🚨 AITSL SKILLS ASSESSMENT FEES ARE CHANGING — TEACHERS, TAKE NOTE! 🇦🇺🎓

🇦🇺 SUBCLASS 462: WHAT DOES “PAUSED” REALLY MEAN?

If you're planning to apply for Australia's Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462), here's an important update to keep in mind.

The Department of Home Affairs has temporarily paused first Subclass 462 visa applications for 23 partner countries under the country-cap system.

But here's the important part:

🚫 PAUSED does not mean CLOSED.
❌ It does not mean CANCELLED.

Country caps may be temporarily paused when demand is high or when the annual allocation is close to being reached. A paused country may become available again later in the same program year.

• This pause applies to first Subclass 462 applications under the country-cap system.
• Second and third Subclass 462 visas are not subject to country caps.
• China, India and Vietnam continue to use the Subclass 462 ballot process.
• Indonesia is also moving to the ballot system, with registrations expected later in 2026.
• Country-cap statuses can change, so applicants should continue checking the official updates before making plans.

💡 If your country is currently paused, don't assume your Work and Holiday opportunity is gone. The status can change depending on available places throughout the program year.
