🇦🇺 SUBCLASS 462: WHAT DOES “PAUSED” REALLY MEAN?

If you're planning to apply for Australia's Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462), here's an important update to keep in mind.

The Department of Home Affairs has temporarily paused first Subclass 462 visa applications for 23 partner countries under the country-cap system.

But here's the important part:

🚫 PAUSED does not mean CLOSED.
❌ It does not mean CANCELLED.

Country caps may be temporarily paused when demand is high or when the annual allocation is close to being reached. A paused country may become available again later in the same program year.

🌏 Countries currently listed as paused include:

🇦🇷 Argentina
🇦🇹 Austria
🇧🇷 Brazil
🇨🇱 Chile
🇨🇿 Czech Republic
🇪🇨 Ecuador
🇬🇷 Greece
🇭🇺 Hungary
🇮🇱 Israel
🇱🇺 Luxembourg
🇲🇾 Malaysia
🇲🇳 Mongolia
🇵🇬 Papua New Guinea
🇵🇪 Peru
🇵🇱 Poland
🇵🇹 Portugal
🇸🇬 Singapore
🇸🇰 Slovak Republic
🇸🇮 Slovenia
🇪🇸 Spain
🇨🇭 Switzerland
🇹🇭 Thailand
🇺🇾 Uruguay

📌 A few important reminders:

• This pause applies to first Subclass 462 applications under the country-cap system.
• Second and third Subclass 462 visas are not subject to country caps.
• China, India and Vietnam continue to use the Subclass 462 ballot process.
• Indonesia is also moving to the ballot system, with registrations expected later in 2026.
• Country-cap statuses can change, so applicants should continue checking the official updates before making plans.

💡 If your country is currently paused, don't assume your Work and Holiday opportunity is gone. The status can change depending on available places throughout the program year.

🚨 Important Update 🚨

🇦🇺 TASMANIA'S 2026–27 SKILLED MIGRATION PROGRAM IS OPENING SOON!

If Tasmania is part of your permanent residency plans, now is the time to get ready.

Migration Tasmania has confirmed the opening dates for the 2026–27 State Nomination Program, with Registrations of Interest (ROIs) opening on 17 August 2026 and weekly invitation rounds beginning from 20 August 2026.

📌 Nomination places available:

✅ 1,250 – Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
✅ 800 – Skilled Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491)
📊 Total: 2,050 nomination places

This program year also introduces several important updates, including revised priority attributes and a new scoring approach. Applicants who have demonstrated a longer period of employment and contribution in Tasmania may receive greater priority.

Good news: Lodging an ROI remains free of charge.

⚠️ Please note that no invitations are currently planned under the Subclass 491 Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles pathway during the 2026–27 program year. However, eligible overseas health and teaching professionals with qualifying Tasmanian employment may still be considered under the Subclass 190 pathway.

💡 If you're planning to apply, now is the ideal time to:
✔️ Check your skills assessment
✔️ Ensure your English test is valid
✔️ Review your SkillSelect EOI
✔️ Prepare your supporting documents
✔️ Make sure your ROI accurately reflects your claims

📩 Need help preparing for Tasmania State Nomination? Our Registered Migration Agent can help you assess your eligibility, review your EOI, and prepare a strong application before invitation rounds begin. Book a consultation now. Let's do this together?

🇦🇺 UNDERSTANDING THE 3 STAGES OF A SUBCLASS 482 VISA

Many people believe that obtaining a Subclass 482 Skills in Demand Visa is all about the applicant's qualifications. However, a successful employer-sponsored visa involves more than just meeting the visa criteria.

There are three key stages in the process:

1️⃣ Sponsorship Approval
The employer must first become an approved sponsor before they can sponsor skilled workers.

2️⃣ Nomination Approval
The employer must nominate a genuine position that meets the relevant legislative and visa requirements.

3️⃣ Visa Application
The applicant must then satisfy the visa requirements, which may include skills, qualifications, work experience, English language proficiency, health, character, and other eligibility criteria.

💡A strong applicant alone doesn't guarantee a successful outcome. The sponsorship, nomination, and visa application all play an important role, and each stage must be prepared correctly.

Whether you're already in Australia or applying from overseas, understanding the process can help you avoid unnecessary delays and complications.

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

A visa refusal doesn't always mean your Australian dream is over.

Depending on your individual circumstances, you may still have options available, including:

✔️ Applying for a review through the Administrative Review Tribunal (ART), where review rights exist (if eligible)
✔️ Lodging a new visa application, if eligible
✔️ Exploring another visa pathway that may better suit your circumstances

Every case is different, and the best course of action depends on factors such as the reason for the refusal, your visa status, and the available legal options.

⚠️ Before making any decisions, it's important to understand your rights and seek advice based on your individual situation.

🇦🇺 TASMANIA SKILLED MIGRATION UPDATE | 2025–26 NOMINATION PLACES HAVE BEEN FILLED

If Tasmania is part of your permanent residency plans, here's the latest update.

Migration Tasmania has confirmed that all state nomination places for the 2025–26 Skilled Migration Program have now been allocated, meaning the program has reached its full capacity for this financial year.

Nomination allocation:
✅ 1,200 places for the Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)
✅ 650 places for the Skilled Work Regional Visa (Subclass 491)

With the available quota now exhausted, no further nominations can be issued under the 2025–26 allocation.

If you've already submitted an application, don't lose hope. Assessments will continue, and applications approved after the allocation has been reached will be considered once Tasmania receives its nomination quota for the 2026–27 program year.

For applicants who submitted a Registration of Interest (ROI) but were not invited, your ROI may remain active in the Application Gateway for up to six months and could be considered when the next program opens.

📢 Migration Tasmania will provide further updates and announce the reopening of the program after the 2026–27 nomination allocation is released.
