πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί AUSTRALIA SUBCLASS 189 INVITATION ROUND β€” LATEST UPDATE

Have you received an invitation for Australia’s Skilled Independent visa (Subclass 189)?

The invitation round has taken place, and invited applicants can now focus on the next stage of their Australian skilled migration journey.

The Subclass 189 visa is a points-tested skilled migration pathway that allows eligible skilled workers to apply for Australian permanent residency without requiring sponsorship from an employer, state, or territory.

Receiving an invitation is an important milestone. However, applicants must still meet the relevant visa requirements and provide the necessary supporting documents before a decision can be made on their application.

βœ… Received an invitation? What should you do next?

Before submitting your visa application, it is important to:

πŸ”Ή Review your invitation: Check the details and application deadline specified in your invitation.

πŸ”Ή Check your eligibility: Ensure that you meet the applicable visa requirements.

πŸ”Ή Prepare your documents: Make sure your supporting documents are accurate, complete, and consistent with the information provided in your Expression of Interest (EOI).

πŸ”Ή Prepare your application carefully: Ensure that all required information and documents are provided within the specified timeframe.

πŸ“© Need assistance with your Subclass 189 visa application?

Melton Migration can assist you with the visa application process and help you understand the next steps based on your individual circumstances.

Another Successful Outcome at Melton Migration!

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί Subclass 417 Working Holiday Visa – Permission to Work Beyond Six Months Granted!

We are pleased to share that our client has successfully obtained permission from the Department of Home Affairs to continue working with the same employer beyond the six-month limitation under visa condition 8547.

Under this condition, Working Holiday visa (subclass 417) holders are generally restricted to working for the same employer for a maximum of six months, unless an exemption applies or permission is granted.

What does this approval mean for our client?

βœ… Can continue working with the same employer beyond six months.

βœ… Can remain employed with that employer for the remaining duration of the current Working Holiday visa.

βœ… Can maintain employment continuity without changing employers solely because of the six-month limitation.

Are you facing the same situation?

If you hold a subclass 417 or 462 visa and wish to continue working for your current employer beyond six months, you may be eligible for an exemption or permission from the Department, depending on your circumstances.

At Melton Migration, we assist employers and visa holders with understanding condition 8547 and preparing requests for permission to work beyond six months.

Major Change to Australian Student Visas: New Rules for Dependent Family Members

From 2 October 2026, significant changes apply to the Student visa (Subclass 500), particularly for students who want to bring their partner or dependent children to Australia.

Under the new rules, most Student visa applicants can no longer include dependent family members in their Student visa application. Importantly, the previous subsequent entrant pathway has also been removed: once a Student visa has been granted, a student cannot later add a partner or dependent child as a Student visa subsequent entrant. There are no exemptions to the subsequent-entrant restriction.

Limited exemptions allow certain applicants to include family members with their Student visa application, including:
- PhD students
- DFAT or Defence-sponsored students
- Foreign government scholarship recipients
- Certain eligible students from Pacific countries and ASEAN member countries
- Some existing Student visa holders whose family members are already included on their current Student visas, subject to specific requirements.

There are transitional protections. Student visa applications lodged before 2 October 2026, including applications containing family members, continue to be assessed under the rules that applied when they were lodged. Immigration and citizenship Website

What does this mean for international students?
Students planning to study in Australia should now consider their family arrangements before lodging the Student visa application. Assuming that a spouse or child can simply apply later as a subsequent entrant could result in serious problems under the new rules.
