As the member of parliament representing the fourth largest Persian community in Australia, I stand with the people of Iran in their struggle for freedom against a criminal terrorist regime which commits human rights abuses at home especially against women and girls and exports terrorism around the world including to Australia.

The situation in Iran is increasingly concerning.

I have stood in solidarity with the Iranian people for years.

Our resolve only grows stronger. We stand with the people of Iran and against the brutality of the Iranian regime today and every day.

The Albanese Government has taken stronger action on Iran than any Australian government to date, including declaring Iran’s Ambassador to Australia, along with three other officials, persona non grata, withdrawing our Ambassador from Iran, and listing Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a state sponsor of terrorism.

We will continue to call on Iran to cease its oppression of its citizens, and we will always support the brave Iranian people who are exercising their right to peaceful protest.

Please know that you are not alone during this particularly difficult period.

Israel–Iran Conflict

Following recent military strikes in Iran, the security situation across the Middle East remains highly volatile and may deteriorate further without warning. Australians in Iran are advised to shelter in place and follow the instructions of local authorities in affected areas.

Australian citizens and permanent residents in Iran, Israel, or the Occupied Palestinian Territories are encouraged to register their details via the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) Crisis Portal to receive the latest updates and support.

Flight disruptions and cancellations may occur at short notice due to potential airport and airspace closures. Australians currently in Iran should depart when it is safe to do so.

Up-to-date travel advice is available on the Smartraveller website.
