🔷 Q&A - Agostinho Daloia Neto | Can I Still Get an Employer Sponsorship if I'm Over 45? 🔷

A common concern among skilled professionals is whether reaching the age of 45 precludes eligibility for employer-sponsored visas in Australia.

While standard permanent pathways generally cap eligibility at 45, some options remain available.

Agostinho Daloia Neto Founder Director and Principal Registered Migration Agent (MARN: 1910041) is here to explain which visas have no age limit and the options that may lead to PR up to age 55.

🔷 Did You Know? Australia relies heavily on overseas-born talent to power its engineering sector 🔷

According to Australia’s Untapped Workforce: Unlocking Mid-Career Opportunities for Women in Engineering, published by Engineers Australia and WSP in June 2026, overseas-born professionals make up a significant share of Australia’s engineering workforce:

🔹 75% of female engineers in Australia’s labour force were born overseas
🔹 50% of male engineers were born overseas

The report notes that Australia’s engineering workforce has been built through migration, with many overseas-born engineers having studied at Australian schools and universities.

At the same time, Australia continues to face an engineering skills shortage, driven by investment in infrastructure, resources and the transition to clean energy.

For skilled engineers considering Australia, this highlights the important contribution of internationally experienced professionals to the country’s engineering capability.

🔷 Employer-Sponsored Visa Processing Times - Latest Update 🔷

The Department of Home Affairs has recently updated the global visa processing times.

Understanding these processing trends helps both employers and applicants map out realistic timelines and strategy for their visa applications.

➡️ With increasing compliance requirements, early preparation has become more important than ever for both employers and skilled professionals.

Check the image for the latest figures 🔎

Processing times can vary depending on several factors, including:

🔹 Occupation demand
🔹 Salary level
🔹 Quality and completeness of the application
🔹 Labour market evidence
🔹 Individual circumstances and supporting documentation

A strong migration strategy should include:

🔹 PR pathway discussions from the beginning
🔹 Early sponsorship preparation
🔹 Correct salary and nomination planning
🔹 Timing management for visa expiry

Planning ahead and lodging a well-prepared application can make a significant difference in the overall process.

🔷 Bridging Visa B (BVB) Processing: Lodging Applications at Least 4 Weeks Before Travel Date is Advisable 🔷

The Department of Home Affairs has advised that Bridging Visa B (Subclass 020) applications should be lodged at least four weeks prior to the intended date of departure.

Adequate time is required to finalise applications. Grants should not be expected within a few days of lodgement unless compelling and compassionate circumstances apply.

📌 A Bridging Visa B (Subclass 020) allows visa applicants to travel outside Australia and return while their substantive visa application is being processed. The application fee has recently increased to $575.

Planning travel well ahead helps prevent unexpected delays or disruptions to your travel plans.
