📢 **Advocacy Update** 🧳✈️
Melbourne Airport has advised: "We will be screening in accordance with the guidance paper, and the Department of Home Affairs sees no issues with me advising the Victorian diabetic community." This is a positive outcome that supports people living with diabetes who travel with medical devices, medications, and supplies. Thank you to Melbourne Airport and the Department of Home Affairs for their engagement on this issue.
Hi Deb,
As a positive change to the process, passengers are no longer required to produce a doctor’s certificate or manufacturer documentation for the devices. Instead, screening officers are required to visually sight devices to confirm they are legitimate medical devices. To clear the device, it must also undergo a physical inspection and explosive trace testing (ETD).
Additionally, as part of the frisk search process, screening officers are required to inspect and resolve any item or object detected during the search.
Many thanks,
Aviation
