Not every work injury happens in a single accident.

For workers doing repetitive, heavy, or physically demanding work, injuries can develop gradually over months or years. What gets dismissed as “wear and tear” may still be connected to someone’s employment and may give rise to WorkCover entitlements.

A safety system was overridden.
A 200-tonne crane toppled.
Workers were put at risk of being crushed.

The cause? WorkSafe found the crane had been operated outside its rated capacity while the load limiter override was activated. WorkSafe also found that workers had been positioned close to moving loads.

Nobody was injured. But the danger was there and the risk was real.

Exclusion zones keep workers out of crane operating areas, lifting zones, and the path of moving loads.

WorkSafe data reveals the reality:
• 32% of Victorian construction deaths involved vehicles or moving objects
• Being hit by moving objects caused 11% of construction claims

When safety systems are bypassed and exclusion zones fail, workers pay the price.

Robodebt FAQs: “So what’s happening next?”

Once all Group Members have been notified of their eligibility and Group Member Category, the next step is the Settlement Assessment. Group Members will choose if they’d like their individual circumstances to be taken into account when determining their compensation, or if they’d like the quicker Fixed Payment option. Andrew Grech explains in this short video.

ABC News has reported on the class action filed in the Federal Court last month by Gordon Legal on behalf of Aboriginal Community Police Officers (ACPOs) serving in the Northern Territory Police Force.

The class action covers racial vilification and abuse directed at ACPOs, or directed at an Indigenous person or persons in the presence of ACPOs, as well unequal terms and conditions of employment. The class action was filed by Gordon Legal following the termination of a representative complaint filed in the Australian Human Rights Commission.

Gordon Legal Partner Seb O'Meara said: "[Our clients] allege systemic racial vilification and abuse, both directed at them personally, but also directed to others - including community members - by members of the NT Police Force, in their presence. They think that change is really important, and that is what is motivating them."

Content warning: child sexual abuse

On Thursday 30 July 2026, the Victorian Government formally apologised in Parliament to victim-survivors of child sexual abuse in Victorian government schools.

The apology was a public acknowledgement, on the record, for the abuse that happened and the state that failed to prevent it. The apology is one of nine recommendations made by the Board of Inquiry into Historical Child Sexual Abuse in its report to the Victorian Government on 26 February 2024.

However, as the Victorian Government has acknowledged, an apology needs to be backed by meaningful action. And it’s important to remember that your legal rights to compensation remain the same.

Status: ID Verification Lodged
⇢ This means you’ve provided your ID and it’s being reviewed. Hold tight - we’ll let you know via email once your ID has been verified.

Status: Manual ID Verification Required
⇢ This means the ID verification system used, GBD, wasn’t able to verify your ID and we need to manually review it. This will occur over the coming weeks, and there’s nothing for you to do now. We’ll let you know by email if we need anything further or to confirm we’ve been able to manually verify your ID. This won’t delay the date of your payment.

Your Robodebt FAQs: What’s happening right now?

In June 2026, the Settlement for the Robodebt Class Action Appeal was approved and Gordon Legal was appointed as the Scheme Administrator.

That means that the Federal Court has trusted us to carry out the claims assessment process in accordance with the Settlement Distribution Scheme approved by the Court.

The first step of that process is letting everyone who registered at robodebtsettlement.com.au during the registration period know if they are eligible to participate in the Settlement Scheme.
