Only these two can legally charge you for visa help, and they are not the same.

Both can lodge your visa. The difference shows if it is refused, if they make a mistake, or if someone wants your file. Only a lawyer can take a refusal to the Federal Court. Only a lawyer’s clients can be awarded compensation by a legal regulator. Only what you tell a lawyer is covered by legal professional privilege.

The Australian Border Force publishes a list of employers who broke visa sponsorship rules. If you’re on a 482 visa, an international student looking for work, or planning your PR pathway, search your employer’s name on this list first.

Working in healthcare, social assistance, education or construction? Victoria wants to hear from you.

Victoria’s 2026–27 priority list covers 101 occupations for 190 and 491 nomination, across four industries:

- Healthcare
- Social assistance
- Education
- Construction

Each invitation round, the top-scoring applicants in each priority industry are invited. Having a partner whose occupation is on the list is also one of the conditions for the 50 partner points on the Victorian Points Test.
