Congratulations to the new democratically elected Co-chairs/Members of the First Peoples’ Assembly/Gellung Warl. We look forward to working with you in the Treaty era. Gellung Warl is the new body created by Australia's first Treaty to make decisions about First Peoples, continue truth-telling and healing, and hold the Victorian Government to account.

Youthlaw is committed to supporting the work of Gellung Warl because we know that when you listen to the people most impacted, you get better outcomes.

Congratulations to Meriki Onus (they/them) from the Gunai and Gunditjmara mobs and Dja Dja Wurrung, Wamba Wamba, Yorta Yorta, Dhudhuroa, Waywurru, Barapa Barapa, Wergaia, Wiradjuri man Djaran Murray-Jackson (he/him) who have been elected to serve as the Gellung Warl Co-chairs.

Read more about the Co-Chairs at Gellung Warl via the link in our bio, Peoples' Assembly of Victoria and sign up to Friends of Treaty, or donate to the self-determination fund.

Housing is essential. Renting should be treated that way too.
A new report from Anika Legal, Better Renting and the Consumer Policy Research Centre shows strong public support for action to make renting more stable, affordable and fair.
83% say renting is an essential service.
77% say a generation of renters may never afford to own a home.
It’s time for governments to regulate renting like an essential service.

We’re so excited to share that Youthlaw has received an Everyday Legal Grant from the Victoria Law Foundation to support our project:
Before you apply for a Personal Safety Intervention Order (PSIO): Options for resolving school and peer disputes. This project will develop a practical, accessible resource for young people and parents navigating school and peer disputes, helping them better understand: the PSIO process and its consequences, alternative pathways to resolve conflict outside the court system, including school safety planning, mediation, and restorative practices.

With this funding, we will also explore opportunities to provide training for schools, strengthening understanding of PSIOs and supporting early, effective responses to conflict before matters escalate to court. We’ll work alongside key partners, including the Children’s Court, to ensure this information is available at critical decision points for families and young people.
