Standing with Nepal 🙏

The team at Emigrate Lawyers is heartbroken by the devastating flash floods that struck Nepal on the morning of 26 August 2026. A series of flash floods along the upper Trishuli and Bhotekoshi river system swept through settlements in the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts , with experts pointing to an ice-and-rock avalanche from a Himalayan glacier as the likely trigger.

At least 95 people have been confirmed dead in Nepal, with hundreds more — local residents, workers and tourists — still missing as search and rescue operations continue. Homes, roads, bridges and hydropower projects have been washed away , and authorities have urged communities to stay clear of the banks of the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli and Narayani rivers.

To our Nepali clients, friends and colleagues here in Australia, and to everyone with loved ones back home: our thoughts are with you. We know that watching a crisis unfold from afar — often while struggling to reach family — carries a particular kind of anguish.

🚨 Important Update for Indonesian Work and Holiday Visa Applicants

Australia is changing the way Indonesian passport holders access the Work and Holiday Visa (Subclass 462).

Under the new arrangement between the Australian and Indonesian governments, Indonesia’s Work and Holiday Maker program will move to a ballot-based process.

So, what does this mean?

Instead of proceeding directly to a first Subclass 462 visa application, eligible Indonesian applicants will first need to register their interest in the ballot.

If Home Affairs selects you through the ballot, you can then move forward with the visa application process and demonstrate that you meet the relevant visa requirements.

✅ Register interest in the ballot
✅ Wait for the selection process
✅ If selected, proceed with the visa application
⚠️ Ballot selection does not guarantee visa approval

The ballot is not open yet. Home Affairs says registrations for Indonesian passport holders are expected to open later in 2026, with the exact opening date and final arrangements to come once confirmed.

Indonesia currently has an annual cap of 5,000 first Subclass 462 visa grants.

📌 What should you do now?

Monitor official Home Affairs announcements, check whether you meet the eligibility requirements and prepare your documents early. Most importantly, avoid relying on unofficial ballot dates circulating online.

If you need assistance with an Australian visa, immigration matter or understanding how these changes may affect you, contact Emigrate Lawyers.

🚨 Important Update: Subclass 462 Visa Applications Paused for 24 Countries

Australia has temporarily paused first Subclass 462 Work and Holiday Visa applications for passport holders from 24 countries due to strong demand and annual country caps.

The pause does not necessarily mean the program has permanently closed. Country statuses may change during the program year, so prospective applicants should continue checking updates from the Department of Home Affairs.

If you are unsure how this update affects your plans or whether another visa pathway may be available, Emigrate Lawyers can help you understand your options.
