Receiving an invitation is only the first step, here are some common EOI mistakes that can put your invitation at risk.
Changes in marital status that affect partner points claimed in your EOI,
Claimed work experience that may not meet the skilled employment requirements, for example:
• not in your nominated occupation or a closely related occupation
• not recognised by the relevant assessing authority
Important documents that have expired, such as your skills assessment, English test, or other evidence relied upon for your points.
If you've received an invitation and would like assistance with preparing your application and supporting documents, contact us for professional guidance.

If you had the same points but didn’t get invited, this is usually why:
EOIs are first ranked by points.
But when points are the same, the system then looks at when your EOI reached that score. This is called the “tie-break date” or “date of effect”.
For example, if the cut-off for your occupation is 80 points, and both you and your friend have 80 points, but your friend reached 80 earlier and updated their EOI sooner, they can still be prioritised in the invitation round.

Is Regional Migration still worth it?
Regional visa allocations have been cut by more than half, from 33,000 down to 14,110 places. Is Regional Migration still worth it?

At first glance, the reduction looks significant. However, when we look at the 2025–26 financial year, the Regional category was allocated 33,000 places under the Migration Program, but only around 7,500 subclass 491 places were ultimately allocated when the final seats number were published.
If the full 14,110 regional places are utilised in the 2026–27 program year, that would still be almost double the number of subclass 491 places allocated in the previous financial year.

Migration Alert: 407 Training visa targeted under new national compliance operation
The Australian Border Force has commenced a nationwide compliance operation targeting workplace-based training arrangements under the subclass 407 Training visa program.
In the first month alone, more than 100 site visits were carried out across regional Australia, covering six states and territories.
The broader operation is expected to expand nationwide, with more than 200 workplaces scheduled to be visited.
During these inspections, ABF officers may interview employers and migrant worker trainees to verify that the claimed occupational training arrangements are genuine and compliant with visa requirements.

Payslips and job descriptions alone are generally not enough for nursing graduates to claim skilled employment points under points-tested visas such as subclass 189, 190, or 491.
Here are two key requirements when claiming skilled nursing employment points::
No.1 You need to prove that you have a minimum of:
12 months (or more) paid Australian work experience (at least 1040 hours)
OR
36 months (or more) paid international work experience (at least 3120 hours).
in the 10 years before you are invited to apply.

No.2 Your skilled employment claim will generally only be accepted if you provide compliant professional reference letters.
These letters must include the above details with official company letterhead, and must be composed and signed by your direct manager or supervisor.
