Red-lid waste services will continue to be disrupted across Hume next week by Australian Services Union (ASU) protected industrial action. Some garbage bin collections may be delayed or missed while the situation continues to change.

A reminder to:
🗓️ Please put your bin out on your usual collection day, where the truck can easily reach it.
🗑️ If it is not collected, please leave it out.
✅ You do not need to report it.

A catch up collection for bins missed this week will take place over the weekend.

We are continuing to arrange catch-up collections for next week and will keep the community updated as further information becomes available.

We thank our community for continuing to respect Council employees during this time. Protected industrial action is a lawful part of the bargaining process.

🎉 Join us to celebrate the opening of the recently upgraded Canadian Court Reserve in Meadow Heights!

☕ Bring your family, friends and neighbours along for a free coffee and a chance to explore the reserve's new features.

🚴 Children are encouraged to bring their bikes and scooters and try the new looped path and learn-to-ride circuit, designed to help young riders build confidence while having fun.

The reserve upgrade includes:

✅ new shared paths connecting to Coolaroo Station and Pascoe Vale Road
✅ new shelter and seating.

This is a free event and everyone is welcome.

📣 Upcoming impacts to Council Services

Hume City Council has been advised of a planned work stoppage by the Australian Services Union (ASU) on Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 October, which will affect some Council services. Partial work bans will also affect waste services on Friday 16 October.

Wednesday 14 October
📚 Libraries
All regular programs will be cancelled at all Hume Libraries branches, and libraries will close earlier than usual, at 5pm.

Some other Council services may also be impacted. As participation in industrial action is optional for union members, the full impact of services will not be known until the day.

Wednesday 14 October, Thursday 15 October and Friday 16 October

We welcome the Victorian Labor Party's commitment towards accessibility upgrades at Sunbury Train Station, a key advocacy item identified in our Transport Strategy. Improving accessibility and connectivity at the station will help more residents access public transport safely and conveniently.

We now call on all major parties to support this commitment, along with Council's calls for the redevelopment of the Sunbury Train Station and Bus Interchange that:

🚆ensures every platform is connected by an all-weather overpass
🚌delivers a new bus interchange located to minimise buses on Evans Street
☔provides all weather waiting areas for both platforms

Delivering these projects will improve transport choices, reduce car dependency and better connect our residents to jobs, education and services.
