๐จ๐ฆ Dream of studying in Canada โ together as a family? ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง
Packing bags together, a spouse working on an open work permit, and graduation day with your little one waving the Canadian flag. That dream is still possible, if you choose the right program.
๐ Spousal Open Work Permit: current rules for students
Your spouse/partner may be eligible if you are studying full-time at a PGWP-eligible institution in:
โ
A Masterโs program of 16 months or longer
โ
A Doctoral (PhD) program
โ
An eligible professional degree at a university (e.g. MD, LLB/JD, B.Ed, BScN)
โ
Certain eligible provincial/territorial programs
โ ๏ธ A 12-month masterโs no longer qualifies for a new spousal work permit, and dependent children donโt get open work permits under this pathway. Your spouse also needs to show funds separate from yours.
Choosing the wrong course can split your family. Choosing the right one keeps you together. ๐
